Mishal Kanoo Delivers Insider Insights on Navigating Family Business Challenges at Exclusive International Forum

 

Renowned business leader Mishal Kanoo, Chairman of The Kanoo Group, delivered a captivating keynote address at the 6th International Family Business Research Forum, hosted by the American University of Sharjah.

The intimate event attracted influential business dynasties from the region, with Her Highness Bodour bint Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Chairperson of the Board of Trustees and President of the American University of Sharjah, leading the distinguished attendees. Her Highness, a multifaceted leader holding key positions in various organizations, including the Sharjah Research, Technology, and Innovation Park (SRTIP) and the Sharjah Investment and Development Authority, acknowledged Mishal Kanoo's role as Chairman of The Kanoo Group. Her father is His Highness Dr. Sheikh Sultan bin Muhammad Al-Qasimi, who has served as Ruler of the Emirate of Sharjah since 1972.

In her insightful remarks, Her Highness emphasized Mishal Kanoo's unique perspective, drawing from his experiences at the helm of a successful family business. Mishal shared valuable insights into the intricate dynamics of balancing business with emotions, navigating conflicts, and addressing the crucial aspect of the leadership pipeline in a family business setting.

The 6th International Family Business Research Forum, organized by Professor Rodrigo Basco, the Sheikh Saoud bin Khalid bin Khalid Al-Qassimi Chair in Family Business in Australia, took place last October. As an MBA graduate from Australia and a visiting lecturer, Mishal Kanoo demonstrated a profound understanding of the vital role that family businesses play in the UAE economy. He also shed light on the unique challenges and opportunities inherent in such enterprises.

Expressing gratitude, Her Highness Bodour Al Qasimi extended her appreciation to Mishal Kanoo, Professor Basco, and all the distinguished speakers and panelists who contributed to the enriching conversations on family businesses in the Gulf and the Arab World. The forum proved to be a platform where thought leaders engaged in relevant and stimulating discussions about the intricacies of family businesses and their impact on the regional economy.

In attendance was Abdullatif Kanoo and Mahmood Mian, Business Development Manager for UAE and Oman at The Kanoo Group, in support of The Kanoo Group, a large family-owned conglomerate based in the UAE and Oman, which Mishal Kanoo chairs.
