The Kanoo Group Celebrates the UAE's 52nd National Day

"52 years. Do not take this for granted. Every year, let it be a year filled with gratitude for every day. Please realize that we are very lucky to be in a place that provides and protects us. What the UAE government does to the outside world resonates with the founding father Baba Zayed's advocacy to always help those in need. Help others. We are extremely lucky that this country cares for us and gives us an opportunity. We are in a place where we can create opportunities for others as well—an opportunity for our families and an opportunity for our children. Remember, whenever you work, do not work for this company; work for your family, work for your children, to give them better opportunities."
-Mishal Kanoo-

In celebration of its national pride and Emirati heritage, Mishal Kanoo, the Chairman of The Kanoo Group, a diversified business conglomerate with over ten subsidiaries and a network of global partners across various industries, led a heartfelt commemoration of the 52nd anniversary of the foundation of the United Arab Emirates at the central HQ in Bur Dubai, Dubai, UAE.

Mishal Kanoo's speech during this commemorative celebration resonated with everyone in attendance, pulling heartstrings and sharing moments of wisdom and laughter. The staff and managers of The Kanoo Group, representing both locals and expats, gathered for a festive banquet, exchanging pleasantries and National Day greetings to honor the UAE's independence.

The HAK hall, where the festivities unfolded over lunch, was transformed with the vibrant colors of the UAE flag, and everyone enjoyed a special menu featuring Emirati cuisine. The entire office was adorned with miniature flags and decorations symbolizing the colors of the UAE flag (red, white, and green) to mark the celebration.

Also in attendance was Maha Kanoo, Director of The Kanoo Group, who emphasized the significance of unity, stating, "Unity has been the hallmark of the UAE's journey, and as it goes in pursuit of success towards the next few years, I firmly believe that collaboration and unification will persist in serving as the nation's guiding principle. We are committed to fostering unity within the Group to imbibe the nation's bid for a tolerant society."

In the Abu Dhabi office, the celebration was led by Mohamed Abdul Latif Kanoo, Deputy Chairman of The Kanoo Group, along with Abdullatif Kanoo. They highlighted the importance of innovation and providing the highest quality of service to stay relevant in a rapidly changing market. The Deputy Chairman remarked, "The UAE has proven its prowess to stay adept in a rapidly changing market. May we all take inspiration from the values of this nation and continue working hard to attain further success in our Group."

Simultaneously, Kanoo Machinery UAE celebrated the occasion led by Kannan Chandrasekaran, General Manager (UAE, Oman, and Bahrain), and Khalid Ali, Divisional Manager of Kanoo Machinery-UAE, at the Al Quoz - Dubai headquarters. Chandrasekaran emphasized the UAE's success over the past 52 years, rooted in the leaders' commitment to pursuing innovation at the highest level. He noted that this commitment has opened countless opportunities for residents and sectors to thrive, setting the highest quality standards for business and professional skill sets.

The UAE's 52nd National Day celebration also marked the last holiday break of the year, with December 1st, 2nd, and 3rd declared public holidays. As we commemorate the union of the seven emirates, let us also celebrate the legacy of our nation's ancestors.

Happy Emirati Women's Day! Message from our Director MAHA HAMED KANOO

Sustainability is not just about the environment. It is also about social and economic development. We need to create a society where everyone can thrive. Working in the corporate world all my life, I am committed to working towards this goal, supporting the mission and vision of COP28.

Women have a unique role in this effort, as we are the primary caregivers and educators. We can also use our voices to advocate for policies that support sustainability. Sustainability is essential to our future, and we must protect our environment and resources for future generations.

The Kanoo Group is all about that. We must invest in renewable energy and other sustainable technologies and commit to working together to build a more sustainable future for all, including women.

As a woman who grew up in the UAE and has led the drive for the inclusion of Emirati personnel in all our company tiers, I am very humbled to spearhead this initiative of incorporation. Even before the UAE government's mandatory inclusion of Emiratis in private companies, The Kanoo Group has always prioritized Emiratis in the workforce. They can be assured of our full support.

In the heart of corporate synergy, I am very proud of every Emirati woman at The Kanoo Group who stands firm, showing that collaboration isn't just a word; it's a sustainable action that shapes the destiny of the company, the country, and the family. I wish to greet all of them on this joyous day.

What does “We Collaborate for Tomorrow” really mean? EMIRATI Women of The Kanoo Group SPEAKS on Emirati Women’s Day 2023

First launched by Her Highness Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak in 2015, the annual Emirati Women’s Day is celebrated each year on August 28th. It’s a poignant date that Her Highness chose as it coincides with the day the UAE’s General Women’s Union (GWU) was established in 1975.

In April, Sheikha Fatima said, “Every year, we proudly announce an inspiring theme for Emirati Women’s Day, and this national occasion is our priority. This day highlights objectives aligning with the country’s global leadership in recognizing and empowering women.”

In light of the theme, it is only fitting to ask some of The Kanoo Group's incredible women who embody the theme perfectly on this year’s theme.

We ask:

What's your special message to every woman in The Kanoo Group for Emirati Women's Day or to all the women living in UAE?
What does "We Collaborate for Tomorrow" really mean for you?
And what role must women have in sustainability in line for the upcoming COP28?

Here are the thoughts of 9 amazing women from The Kanoo Group who are career-driven, inspiring, empowering, and looking to the future. These powerful women are inspirations to everyone in the UAE.

Ms Maha Kanoo, Director of Yusuf Bin Ahmed Kanoo (Holdings) BSC & Director of The Kanoo Group (UAE & Oman)

Happy Emirati Women's Day!

I call on all women to join me in this vital work in light of the forthcoming COP28 the country is hosting.

Emirati women are playing a leading role in shaping the future of their country. They have leading positions in the corporate world as engineers, scientists, HR specialists, IT experts, shipping experts, working in a man's world like machinery and more. They are breaking down barriers and making their voices heard. So, let us celebrate this progress and support them in their continued success.

Emirati women are the future of their country. They are educated, ambitious, and driven. They are working to create a more just and equitable society for all.

I am proud that the UAE is hosting COP28 because this is a significant opportunity to show the world our commitment to sustainability. We are a young country, but we are also a forward-thinking country. We are committed to living in a better world for future generations. I am confident that we will make a difference.

Hosting COP28 is essential to show the world our commitment to sustainability. On Emirati Women's Day, I call on all women to join me in this effort.

We must work with the international community to address the challenges of climate change

Emirati women compose a harmonious tune in the symphony of collaboration, dispelling myths and championing sustainability. Our notes will echo in the halls of COP28, resonating with progress.

Happy Emirati Women's Day!

Ms Amna Al Mheiri, Group Talent Acquisition Manager

The future of our country, the UAE, depends on the strength and resilience of our women. They are the ones who will shape and make it a better place for all. Let us celebrate their achievements and commit to working together to build a brighter future for all.

I get inspired by the many Emirati women working to make our country more sustainable. I met these women as they started their careers with The Kanoo Group. They are working to develop new technologies and solutions that will help us to reduce our environmental impact.

I am proud to be a part of this movement, and I am committed to doing my part to create a more sustainable future. We must empower women and youth to lead the way in sustainability.

From corner offices to global conferences, Emirati women shatter misconceptions and illuminate the path toward a successful COP28. Together, we scripted a narrative that 'We Collaborate for Tomorrow.'

Happy Emirati Women's Day!

Ms Zainab Ismail, Team Leader – MIS Dept. (Travel Division)

I am excited to see the future of Emirati women in the corporate world. We are on the cusp of great things. We are already making a difference at The Kanoo Group; we can do even more. I call on all women to dream big and never give up on their goals.

Emirati women unite in the corporate arena. With 'We Collaborate for Tomorrow' as our mantra, we sow the seeds of sustainability, ready to reap in COP28.

Happy Emirati Women's Day!

Ms Afra Juma Bin Ghulaita, Export Supervisor (Shipping Division)

Sustainability is the key to our future. We need to protect our environment and resources for future generations. And we need to do it reasonably and equitably for everyone. At The Kanoo Group, we are committed to working towards a more sustainable future, and women are vital in this effort. I call on all women to join me in this journey.

Emirati women stand tall in boardrooms and meetings, bridging the gap between myths and realities while carving out a sustainable path for the company and the forthcoming COP28. I see everyone working together because Emirati women strive for a brighter tomorrow.

All women are essential to building a sustainable future. They are primary caregivers, educators, and entrepreneurs. They are the ones who will raise the next generation of responsible citizens. Ms Moaza Al Tayer, Assistant Manager (Logistics I & E) - Machinery Division

Emirati women are the most vital backbone of our society. They are the driving force behind our progress and our future. On Emirati Women's Day, let us celebrate their achievements and commit to working together to build a more sustainable future for all.

I am excited to see the future of many Emirati women embarking in the corporate world. We are on the cusp of great things. We are already making a difference, and we can do even more. I am committed to working with other women to create a more equitable and sustainable future for our country.

Emirati women are the threads that weave the fabric of corporate sustainability, debunking myths with every collaborative stride. Let our legacy resonate in the corridors of The Kanoo Group and at COP28, and beyond.

Happy Emirati Women's Day!

Ms Maryam Talib, Assistant Manager (Parts) – Machinery Division

I am tired of the myths that say that women are incapable of leading in the corporate world or are not interested in sustainability. I am here to say that these myths are false. Women are just as capable as men of leading and making a difference. And we are just as passionate about sustainability as anyone else. On Emirati Women's Day, I call on all women to speak out against these myths and to show the world what we can do.

Emirati women are partners in progress. At The Kanoo Group, they are working alongside men to build a better future for their country. They are the backbone of the economy and the drivers of change. Let us celebrate their contributions and commit to working together for a better tomorrow.

We must promote sustainable practices in all sectors of our economy.

As Emirati women in the corporate world, we're architects of sustainability, dismantling myths and constructing a reality where collaboration echoes through The Kanoo Group.

Happy Emirati Women's Day!

Ms Fatima Aljanaahi, HR & Admin Executive

The UAE can be a global leader in sustainability. We have the resources, the technology, and the human capital to make a real difference. But we need to work together. We need to collaborate across sectors and borders. We need to put aside our differences and focus on what we have in common. I am confident we can achieve this goal and am committed to doing my part.

Emirati women are changemakers. They are using their voices and talents to make a difference. They are fighting for equality, justice, and peace. Let us stand with them in solidarity and support their work.

As Emirati women in the corporate realm, we shatter glass ceilings and misconceptions, proving that our collaboration today paves the sustainable path for all tomorrow.

From debunking myths to pioneering sustainability, Emirati women in the corporate sphere prove that collaboration is our compass. Determined, The Kanoo Group steers toward COP28 with all our support and positivity, shaping a future that echoes unity.

Happy Emirati Women's Day!

A Surefire Way to Set New Employees Up for Success

A person's first days or few weeks at a new job are a mix of excitement and anxiety as they settle into their new role and find out how they fit into the company culture.

The Kanoo Group understands the importance of a comprehensive orientation program and must execute this process effectively to ensure new employees get off to a great start.

The process begins with the Human Resources and Administration Department initiating a series of approaches to introducing new employees to the company's history, culture, and values.

The aim is to familiarize the new hires with documented procedures and work instructions needed as an easy reference for guidance on executing their work more efficiently and effectively, thus, providing standard quality products and services to clients at all times.

Induction Day is a full-day event that includes breakout sessions on company policies and procedures. New employees also have the opportunity to meet new members and get to know the company's history and culture firsthand.

"Our orientation program is designed to help new employees feel welcome and supported," said Ms Maha Kanoo, Director of Yusuf Bin Ahmed Kanoo (Holdings) BSC & Director of The Kanoo Group (UAE & Oman). "We want them to clearly understand our company's culture and values, to equip themselves with the knowledge and skills they need to succeed in their new role."

As Ms Maryam Al Busaidy, HR Manager - Administration & Emiratisation of The Kanoo Group (UAE & Oman), explains, "A good new staff orientation also makes sense for keeping employees engaged and happy with their decision to join the company. "Introduction to the company is more than just handing out laptops and showing new hires their desks. We want our new employees to be truly introduced to the company mission, vision, and values as well as start building relationships on day one."

One of the highlights of The Kanoo Group's induction program is a game-based learning session led by Ms Rose Santillan Flores, Asst HR & Admin Manager of The Kanoo Group (UAE). "We want our new employees to be excited about learning our company's policies and procedures", said Flores. "The game-based learning session is a great way to do that, and it also helps to break the ice making the event lively and engaging."

"Our main goal is to disseminate proper information to all our new employees in order to achieve effective implementation of the company’s policies & procedures, and most importantly, that they feel the sense of pride to be a part of the Kanoo family.", Flores added.

"The QHSE Department's involvement in the orientation process is an integral part of the program. This is to familiarize the new employees with our ISO 9001, 14001 & 45001 Management Systems. This will help them deliver their work efficiently and effectively in meeting customer's requirements," added Mr Victor Jaurigue, Asst Manager - QHSE Department of The Kanoo Group.

The Kanoo Group's orientation strategy is a comprehensive and effective way to welcome new employees and set them up for success. The modules are well-designed and engaging, and it helps new employees feel welcome and supported.

Welcome to the Kanoo Group family!

The Kanoo Group’s Maryam Al Haddad gets retirement after 21 years of service

Dubai, UAE: For some people, the key to successful retirement means living out their golden years by accepting changes and finding meaningful activities to start fresh with a new beginning. That holds true for Ms. Maryam Al Haddad, after bidding goodbye to The Kanoo Group, her second home for the last 21 years.
Maryam Al Haddad retirement tribute at The Kanoo Group
Maryam Al Haddad honoured during a retirement tribute held The Kanoo Group Headquarters in Dubai
In the Farewell event organised by Ms. Maryam Al Busaidy, HR Manager (Employee Services & Emiratisation ─ UAE & Oman), Ms. Maha Kanoo, General Manager – UAE & Oman (HR & Marketing) graced the occasion including Maryam al Haddad’s colleagues & friends who gathered to express their retirement wishes held on 7th November 2019 at The Kanoo Group Headquarters in Dubai.

Ms. Maha Kanoo said, “Maryam has been with us for decades and has successfully pioneered to be the first female UAE national retiree at The Kanoo Group. I am grateful for her commitment to having served the best long-term interests of the company. With such an employee, The Kanoo Group continues to stand firm through the test of time.”

Maryam Al Haddad retirement tribute at The Kanoo Group“She always comes by to say, ‘Hi’ and asks, ‘how are you doing?’ She is the type of person who doesn’t whine and come to you with the problem. She is that person who works ‘through’ her problem - which demonstrates her strength and positivity,” she recalled.

“I am so proud to be a part of a reputable and legendary company which has been established since 1890 – one of the largest and longest-running family business across the Middle East and beyond,” Maryam Al Haddad expressed.

She laments that it’s difficult to bear the thought of leaving friends and the entire community behind, most especially the Kanoo family she considers not just as employers but as a real family. Nevertheless, she also contemplated that retirement is also an adventure and can be a perfect time to redirect herself on doing things she once loved (but lacked the time to do so) ─hobbies like fishing and travelling, and focusing on health and wellness, and spending more time with her loved ones.

“It saddens us to see you go. But you have a great and vibrant life ahead of you. We congratulate you on your retirement and wish you the best of luck in the future,” Ms. Maryam Al Busaidy, HR Manager - Employee Services & Emiratisation (UAE & Oman) said.

Mr. Mohammad Tariq, HR Manager – UAE & Oman added, “Maryam is always lively and full of energy. She inspires a lot of people around, that’s why it’s hard to find someone to ‘fit into the big shoes’ of her.”

Ms Al Haddad summarised, “For some reason, our society is very obsessed in pointing out the negative aspects of ageing. Yes, it is not always easy, but our attitude toward life matters a lot. With a positive perspective, we grow old with astounding grace, then confidently retire with a peace of mind all after.”

“Always remember that we are a group of select survivors – we have overcome the struggles and storms of life and workplace trials. We age with wisdom, resilience and mature understanding. These values are our priceless reward and accomplishment.”

She has been a great role model and inspiration for the younger generation for her positive outlook, work ethic and commitment. The Kanoo Group wishes her all the best.

The Kanoo Group achieves MOHRE award for Emiratisation efforts

Dubai, UAE: The Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation (MOHRE) has awarded The Kanoo Group with Tawteen Partners Club Membership - Gold (Dubai) and Silver (Abu Dhabi) after having been qualified according to membership requirements and criteria, in line with the government’s Emiratisation programme.

Under the support of His Excellency Nasser bin Thani Juma Al Hamli, Minister of Human Resources and Emiratisation, the Tawteen Partners Club is a MORHE initiative with an objective of contributing to implementing the policies that drive Emirati job seekers to join the private sectors.

It also offers special privileges, incentives and services to qualified private sector establishments according to their classification in the Club.

Ms. Maha Kanoo, General Manager, HR & Marketing – UAE & Oman, The Kanoo Group received the prestigious award which was presented by Ms. Farida Abdullah Al Ali, Assistant Undersecretary for National Human Resources Recruitment at The Kanoo Group’s Head Office in Dubai.

“We are honoured to be one of the strategic partners of the Government in enhancing the UAE workforce participation in the private sectors,” said Ms. Maha Kanoo.
Ms Maryam Al Busaidy, HR Manager, Employee Services and Emiratisation – UAE & Oman together with Mr. Ahmed Mohammad Alipoor, HR Manager, Public Relations – UAE who spearheaded the programme and also part of The Kanoo Group’s local workforces, joined the awarding ceremony.

Ms. Farida Abdullah Al Ali also met with The Kanoo Group’s local employees and exchanged dialogue with them about the importance of Emiratisation which is a priority for the UAE Government and a national responsibility for all, which is one of the driving forces of the UAE's economic development.

After determining each level of Emiratisation priority, the MOHRE sets out a specific ratio of Emirati nationals who should be working in a company.

Based on the ratio and depending on the total number of points, the MOHRE then classifies the company as Silver, Gold or Platinum.

Tawteen Partners Club privileges include access to VIP services (faster, with lower Government fees), membership upgrade, etc. The membership is free and valid for 1 year from the date of joining. It is renewed automatically, provided that all membership conditions are maintained.
The responsibilities and roles of the club members include engaging with other members through regular meetings and open discussions aimed at sharing best practices and helping all parties be responsible partners in realising the Government’s plans and aspirations towards forming a competitive knowledge-based economy led by local talents.

"Congratulations to The Kanoo Group - Dubai (Gold Member) and to
