Happy Emirati Women's Day! Message from our Director MAHA HAMED KANOO

Sustainability is not just about the environment. It is also about social and economic development. We need to create a society where everyone can thrive. Working in the corporate world all my life, I am committed to working towards this goal, supporting the mission and vision of COP28.

Women have a unique role in this effort, as we are the primary caregivers and educators. We can also use our voices to advocate for policies that support sustainability. Sustainability is essential to our future, and we must protect our environment and resources for future generations.

The Kanoo Group is all about that. We must invest in renewable energy and other sustainable technologies and commit to working together to build a more sustainable future for all, including women.

As a woman who grew up in the UAE and has led the drive for the inclusion of Emirati personnel in all our company tiers, I am very humbled to spearhead this initiative of incorporation. Even before the UAE government's mandatory inclusion of Emiratis in private companies, The Kanoo Group has always prioritized Emiratis in the workforce. They can be assured of our full support.

In the heart of corporate synergy, I am very proud of every Emirati woman at The Kanoo Group who stands firm, showing that collaboration isn't just a word; it's a sustainable action that shapes the destiny of the company, the country, and the family. I wish to greet all of them on this joyous day.

What does “We Collaborate for Tomorrow” really mean? EMIRATI Women of The Kanoo Group SPEAKS on Emirati Women’s Day 2023

First launched by Her Highness Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak in 2015, the annual Emirati Women’s Day is celebrated each year on August 28th. It’s a poignant date that Her Highness chose as it coincides with the day the UAE’s General Women’s Union (GWU) was established in 1975.

In April, Sheikha Fatima said, “Every year, we proudly announce an inspiring theme for Emirati Women’s Day, and this national occasion is our priority. This day highlights objectives aligning with the country’s global leadership in recognizing and empowering women.”

In light of the theme, it is only fitting to ask some of The Kanoo Group's incredible women who embody the theme perfectly on this year’s theme.

We ask:

What's your special message to every woman in The Kanoo Group for Emirati Women's Day or to all the women living in UAE?
What does "We Collaborate for Tomorrow" really mean for you?
And what role must women have in sustainability in line for the upcoming COP28?

Here are the thoughts of 9 amazing women from The Kanoo Group who are career-driven, inspiring, empowering, and looking to the future. These powerful women are inspirations to everyone in the UAE.

Ms Maha Kanoo, Director of Yusuf Bin Ahmed Kanoo (Holdings) BSC & Director of The Kanoo Group (UAE & Oman)

Sustainability is not just about the environment. It is also about social and economic development. We need to create a society where everyone can thrive. Working in the corporate world all my life, I am committed to working towards this goal, supporting the mission and vision of COP28.

Ms Maryam Talib, Assistant Manager (Parts) – Machinery Division

I am tired of the myths that say that women are incapable of leading in the corporate world or are not interested in sustainability. I am here to say that these myths are false. Women are just as capable as men of leading and making a difference. And we are just as passionate about sustainability as anyone else. On Emirati Women's Day, I call on all women to speak out against these myths and to show the world what we can do.

Emirati women are partners in progress. At The Kanoo Group, they are working alongside men to build a better future for their country. They are the backbone of the economy and the drivers of change. Let us celebrate their contributions and commit to working together for a better tomorrow.

As Emirati women in the corporate world, we're architects of sustainability, dismantling myths and constructing a reality where collaboration echoes through The Kanoo Group.

Happy Emirati Women's Day!

Ms Fatima Aljanaahi, HR & Admin Executive

The UAE can be a global leader in sustainability. We have the resources, the technology, and the human capital to make a real difference. But we need to work together. We need to collaborate across sectors and borders. We need to put aside our differences and focus on what we have in common. I am confident we can achieve this goal and am committed to doing my part.

Emirati women are changemakers. They are using their voices and talents to make a difference. They are fighting for equality, justice, and peace. Let us stand with them in solidarity and support their work.

As Emirati women in the corporate realm, we shatter glass ceilings and misconceptions, proving that our collaboration today paves the sustainable path for all tomorrow.

A Surefire Way to Set New Employees Up for Success

A person's first days or few weeks at a new job are a mix of excitement and anxiety as they settle into their new role and find out how they fit into the company culture.

The Kanoo Group understands the importance of a comprehensive orientation program and must execute this process effectively to ensure new employees get off to a great start.

The process begins with the Human Resources and Administration Department initiating a series of approaches to introducing new employees to the company's history, culture, and values.

The aim is to familiarize the new hires with documented procedures and work instructions needed as an easy reference for guidance on executing their work more efficiently and effectively, thus, providing standard quality products and services to clients at all times.

Induction Day is a full-day event that includes breakout sessions on company policies and procedures. New employees also have the opportunity to meet new members and get to know the company's history and culture firsthand.

"Our orientation program is designed to help new employees feel welcome and supported," said Ms Maha Kanoo, Director of Yusuf Bin Ahmed Kanoo (Holdings) BSC & Director of The Kanoo Group (UAE & Oman). "We want them to clearly understand our company's culture and values, to equip themselves with the knowledge and skills they need to succeed in their new role."

As Ms Maryam Al Busaidy, HR Manager - Administration & Emiratisation of The Kanoo Group (UAE & Oman), explains, "A good new staff orientation also makes sense for keeping employees engaged and happy with their decision to join the company. "Introduction to the company is more than just handing out laptops and showing new hires their desks. We want our new employees to be truly introduced to the company mission, vision, and values as well as start building relationships on day one."

One of the highlights of The Kanoo Group's induction program is a game-based learning session led by Ms Rose Santillan Flores, Asst HR & Admin Manager of The Kanoo Group (UAE). "We want our new employees to be excited about learning our company's policies and procedures", said Flores. "The game-based learning session is a great way to do that, and it also helps to break the ice making the event lively and engaging."

"Our main goal is to disseminate proper information to all our new employees in order to achieve effective implementation of the company’s policies & procedures, and most importantly, that they feel the sense of pride to be a part of the Kanoo family.", Flores added.

"The QHSE Department's involvement in the orientation process is an integral part of the program. This is to familiarize the new employees with our ISO 9001, 14001 & 45001 Management Systems. This will help them deliver their work efficiently and effectively in meeting customer's requirements," added Mr Victor Jaurigue, Asst Manager - QHSE Department of The Kanoo Group.

The Kanoo Group's orientation strategy is a comprehensive and effective way to welcome new employees and set them up for success. The modules are well-designed and engaging, and it helps new employees feel welcome and supported.

Welcome to the Kanoo Group family!
