The Kanoo Group Sponsors Intellectual Property Crime Conference for the third time

Dubai, UAE: To reinforce the global efforts in fighting the crime wave of illicit trade, The Kanoo Group, for the third time, co-sponsored the latest edition of International Law Enforcement Intellectual Property Crime Conference held at the Grand Hyatt Hotel in Dubai, on 25 to 26 September 2018.

The intellectual property (IP) event was co-hosted by INTERPOL and Dubai Police in partnership with the United Arab Emirates Ministry of Interior, UL (Underwriters Laboratories), the International Anti-Counterfeiting Coalition (IACC) and the Emirates IP Association (EIPA).

Mr. Fahad Kanoo, Acting CEO, The Kanoo Group-UAE & Oman said, “The annual conference provides us with a vital and unique platform that brings together law enforcement officials, security and industry experts to strengthen our international cooperation against IP crimes in the region and beyond.”

“We continue to do our part in supporting causes and actions that tackle these global threats and bring awareness among different sectors of our community,” he added.
While the Conference was originally intended specifically for law enforcement personnel, it has transformed into a great educational and networking tool for the public, as well as private sector organisations such as The Kanoo Group.

On behalf of The Kanoo Group, Mr. Ali Islim, Marketing Manager of The Kanoo Group (UAE & Oman), together with Management delegate attended the event and received the Appreciation Award from Major General Dr Abdel Qudous Abdelrazaq Al Obaidli, Assistant Commandant General for Excellence and Pioneering, Dubai Police.

The 12th International Law Enforcement IP Crime Conference addressed the key IP issues related to artificial intelligence, cryptocurrencies, organised crime, money laundering, and free trade zones. It was aimed to shape effective enforcement strategies through a review of operational case studies, best practices and industry perspectives through a series of plenary and panel sessions as well as workshops allocated for one-on-one networking sessions.

With the global trade of fake goods, worth approximately half a trillion US dollars a year, IP crime touches all industry sectors, affecting the global economy and endangering public health.

According to INTERPOL, between March and May this year, it has coordinated regional operations across Africa, Asia, the Middle East and South America to shut down factories and supply chains connected to counterfeit goods, and to identify illicit trade routes, and dismantle organised crime networks.

Protecting IP embodies the Expo 2020 Dubai theme, “Connecting Minds, Creating the Future”, in line with the UAE leaders’ vision for a sustainable economy.

As one of the pioneering conglomerates in the region established in 1890, The Kanoo Group understands the importance of IP protection and the enormous damages that illicit trade/counterfeiting and piracy do to our global economy, by which no industry sector is exempt.

H.H. Sheikh Mansoor bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum [left] gives the Appreciation Award to Mr. Fahad Kanoo (Executive Director-UAE) on behalf of The Kanoo Group as a key supporter of the 2015 DIPMF
One of the international keynote speakers, HE Dr. Rüdiger Grube, CEO and Chairman of the Management Board, Deutsche Bahn AG, delivered the opening speech of the Forum. Dr. Grube has over 30 years of extensive experience gained from several companies in Germany, Japan and South Korea.
Deutsche Bahn AG is one of the largest rail operators in Europe and one of the major companies specialized in operating trains and railway in Europe, including German Railways, which extends more than 33,000 kilometers and offers its services in over 130 countries around the world, and employs more than 300,000 employees.

With global economies growing at massive scale, project management is instrumental in managing and streamlining business processes in the public, as well as private sectors. The DIPMF sheds light on Dubai’s role in leading the development drive across the region by successfully adopting to best standards in a series of large projects that have received global attention.

During his introduction speech, Dr. Grube said, “We appreciate the opportunity given to us to share this railway project expertise as an efficient project management in the Arab region. In terms of transport development, it is no doubt that GCC region is currently the most vibrant and fascinating area in the world. You are investing huge amount in building and spending global and long distance public transport system and rail freight transport. I am not only deeply impressed but at the same time very glad that Deutsche Bahn is supporting your ambitious development”.

“This year we launched the largest ever modernization program for Germany’s existing infrastructure together with the German government. We are talking about 30 Billion Euros which we are investing in rail mode by 2019. Secondly, a long distance transport will increase service by 25% throughout Germany by 2030. The aim is to increase train ridership by 50 Million passengers per year.  So we intend not only to expand our services but to improve our quality. And to do this, we are working on digital solutions everywhere. We are doing this because we would like to make sure that we have what it takes to be the number 1 mode of transport in the digital age.”

20 years ago none of us would have imagined building new railway network in the Gulf region that sums such ambition. Here in the GCC, visions seems to become more of a reality. There are interesting rail transport projects on all continents but the projects in the Middle East is the largest and the most ambitious. I’m sure that one day, rail transport between GCC member States and Central Europe or in Asia will become a reality. In any case, a new railway age is growing in the Middle East and we are proud to be a part of it and you can count on Deutsche Bahn as a reliable, safe and sustainable partner.

The Kanoo Group to sponsor "An Evening with John Cleese"

Dubai, UAE: For the second year running, The Kanoo Group will be sponsoring the show “An Evening with John Cleese”, up close and personal with the comedy legend, to be held on 5th to 9th November 2013 at Madinat Theatre - Souk Madinat Jumeirah, Dubai.

John Cleese is an English actor, comedian, writer and film producer. From his origins as a sketch writer for BBC radio, to his star turns in Monty Python’s Flying Circus and Fawlty Towers, he has made a career out of making people laugh. He has played the role of ‘The Guv’ in the critically acclaimed South African film ‘Spud’.

He has also starred in Clockwise, and has appeared in many other films, including two James Bond films, two Harry Potter films, and the last three Shrek films. In his Alimony Tour, Cleese explained the origin of his fondness for black humour, the only thing that he inherited from his mother. Examples of it are the Dead Parrot sketch, "The Kipper and the Corpse" episode of Fawlty Towers, his clip for the 1992 BBC2 mockumentary "A Question of Taste", the Undertakers sketch, the Vomit episode in The Meaning of Life and his eulogy at Graham Chapman's memorial service.

Following sell-out shows in Dubai at the Madinat Theatre last year, “An Evening with John Cleese” will come back in November where Mr. Cleese will entertain audiences with his hilarious antidotes. This year, a Q&A session will be included at the end of the show whereby audience participants will be invited to pose a question to the maestro himself.
Tickets: Balcony AED 350; Stalls AED 380 / AED 450. Book online now at http://madinattheatre.com / Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/MadinatTheatre
