In line with COP28’s demand for climate action, Desolenator opened its solar thermal desalination plant in Al Ain. This cutting-edge facility proudly showcases the world's first fully solar thermal desalination plant in the agriculture sector, coupled with an integrated net-zero greenhouse system—a visionary step into the future of farming in arid regions. In attendance were Abdullatif Kanoo from The Kanoo Group , Raman Marwaha - General Manager of Kanoo Energy (UAE and Oman),Vikrant Mahajan and Ahmed Al Rahma of Kanoo Ventures.

The launch of this project is a key moment in the journey towards achieving sustainable solutions in the realms of energy, food, and water security. Through its innovative approach in producing low-carbon desalinated water, advanced remineralization processes, and integrated greenhouse cooling, Desolenator is steering towards a sustainable future.

The Kanoo Group Celebrates the UAE's 52nd National Day

In celebration of its national pride and Emirati heritage, Mishal Kanoo, the Chairman of The Kanoo Group, a diversified business conglomerate with over ten subsidiaries and a network of global partners across various industries, led a heartfelt commemoration of the 52nd anniversary of the foundation of the United Arab Emirates at the central HQ in Bur Dubai, Dubai, UAE.

Mishal Kanoo's speech during this commemorative celebration resonated with everyone in attendance, pulling heartstrings and sharing moments of wisdom and laughter. The staff and managers of The Kanoo Group, representing both locals and expats, gathered for a festive banquet, exchanging pleasantries and National Day greetings to honor the UAE's independence.

The HAK hall, where the festivities unfolded over lunch, was transformed with the vibrant colors of the UAE flag, and everyone enjoyed a special menu featuring Emirati cuisine. The entire office was adorned with miniature flags and decorations symbolizing the colors of the UAE flag (red, white, and green) to mark the celebration.

Also in attendance was Maha Kanoo, Director of The Kanoo Group, who emphasized the significance of unity, stating, "Unity has been the hallmark of the UAE's journey, and as it goes in pursuit of success towards the next few years, I firmly believe that collaboration and unification will persist in serving as the nation's guiding principle. We are committed to fostering unity within the Group to imbibe the nation's bid for a tolerant society."

In the Abu Dhabi office, the celebration was led by Mohamed Abdul Latif Kanoo, Deputy Chairman of The Kanoo Group, along with Abdullatif Kanoo. The Deputy Chairman remarked, "The UAE has proven its prowess to stay adept in a rapidly changing market. Simultaneously, Kanoo Machinery UAE celebrated the occasion led by Kannan Chandrasekaran, General Manager (UAE, Oman, and Bahrain), and Khalid Ali, Divisional Manager of Kanoo Machinery-UAE, at the Al Quoz - Dubai headquarters. Chandrasekaran emphasized the UAE's success over the past 52 years, rooted in the leaders' commitment to pursuing innovation at the highest level. The Gulf Superyacht Summit recently concluded its second edition at the Hilton Abu Dhabi, Yas Island, in November. Under the esteemed patronage of P&O Marinas, the two-day summit aimed to enlighten, assist, and advise yachting enthusiasts and stakeholders. The overarching goal was to position the Gulf as a premier winter superyacht destination.

Renowned business leader Mishal Kanoo, Chairman of The Kanoo Group, delivered a captivating keynote address at the 6th International Family Business Research Forum, hosted by the American University of Sharjah.

The intimate event attracted influential business dynasties from the region, with Her Highness Bodour bint Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Chairperson of the Board of Trustees and President of the American University of Sharjah, leading the distinguished attendees. Her Highness, a multifaceted leader holding key positions in various organizations, including the Sharjah Research, Technology, and Innovation Park (SRTIP) and the Sharjah Investment and Development Authority, acknowledged Mishal Kanoo's role as Chairman of The Kanoo Group. Her father is His Highness Dr. Sheikh Sultan bin Muhammad Al-Qasimi, who has served as Ruler of the Emirate of Sharjah since 1972.

In her insightful remarks, Her Highness emphasized Mishal Kanoo's unique perspective, drawing from his experiences at the helm of a successful family business. Mishal shared valuable insights into the intricate dynamics of balancing business with emotions, navigating conflicts, and addressing the crucial aspect of the leadership pipeline in a family business setting.

The 6th International Family Business Research Forum, organized by Professor Rodrigo Basco, the Sheikh Saoud bin Khalid bin Khalid Al-Qassimi Chair in Family Business in Australia, took place last October. As an MBA graduate from Australia and a visiting lecturer, Mishal Kanoo demonstrated a profound understanding of the vital role that family businesses play in the UAE economy. He also shed light on the unique challenges and opportunities inherent in such enterprises.

Expressing gratitude, Her Highness Bodour Al Qasimi extended her appreciation to Mishal Kanoo, Professor Basco, and all the distinguished speakers and panelists who contributed to the enriching conversations on family businesses in the Gulf and the Arab World.
