The Kanoo Group, one of the largest
family-owned business conglomerates in the region, has inaugurated its first
ever large-scale solar rooftop project last December 22 in line with the UAE’s
sustainability goals.
The Group’s first solar rooftop system was
inducted in the warehouse of one of its divisions, Kanoo Machinery—one a
leading provider of world-class machinery brands for sales and aftersales in
the region—in Al Quoz, Dubai.
Initiated and supported by our Chairman
Mishal Kanoo, the inauguration was made in partnership with Enerwhere, the region’s
first distributed solar utility company, and was attended by various managers
and leaders across The Kanoo Group’s divisions.
Energy consumption through global
lighting is without a doubt an arising issue. Lighting accounts for 15% of the
global electricity consumption and 5% of worldwide greenhouse gas emissions.
The Kanoo Group remains always one step ahead when it comes to addressing these
concerns through launching several sustainable initiatives—such as these solar
rooftop systems.
The inauguration, led by The Kanoo Group
CEO Fahad Kanoo and Enerwhere Founder and CEO Daniel Zywietz, aims to reflect
the Group’s strategy to encourage its divisions to opt for renewable sources of
energy to reduce carbon emissions and work towards the goals set by thse
Federal Government.
The CEO also noted the importance of
such initiatives now that the threat of global warming and climate change are
becoming more and more imminent. “It is our duty to step up and ensure that we
take part in the worldwide effort to address this common challenge. We all have
a role to pursue a transition to alternate resources and technologies—and be a
responsible energy supplier,” he said.
Meanwhile, Chairman Mishal Kanoo, who
spearheaded the initiative, said that the solar rooftop system is just one of
the many solutions that reflect the conviction of the Group to solve the
complex energy problem in a sustainable manner.
“On behalf of The Kanoo Group, I am
beyond proud of the new undertaking as it shows our resolve to use innovative
technology in order to come up with sustainable solutions. We believe in the
business model of Enerwhere, and I am confident that it will start a solar
revolution across the region. We want to encourage everyone to build an
impactful business that can provide value to their partners, while saving the
planet,” he said.
With the new solar rooftop systems
project, The Kanoo Group hopes to achieve the following:
-
System Size: 490 Kwp of Solar
PV
-
Production of 15,894 Mwh during
System Lifetime
-
Carbon Reduction: 6,993 Tons of
CO2 Emission System Lifetime
-
115,390 trees saved during
System Lifetime
Enerwhere, The Kanoo Group’s main partner for this initiative, is the first and leading distributed solar utility in the Middle East and Africa, as well as one of the largest solar contractors under DEWA’ Shams Dubai programme. Its solar-hybrid solutions have been proven to be reliable and transportable, enabling its customers to significantly reduce their costs and CO2 emissions.
