The Kanoo Group holds seminar on Breast Cancer Awareness

As part of its commitment to raise awareness to the community about breast cancer prevention, The Kanoo Group—one of the largest family conglomerates in the region—held a seminar on November 15 to comprehensively tackle the disease.

In conjunction with the recently concluded Breast Cancer Awareness Month, the seminar—under the theme “We Fight Together—was held in collaboration with HealthBay, one of the top-rated medical centres in Dubai.

The session included comprehensive presentations on breast cancer, with the main speaker—Dr. Dana Haddad from HealthBay Clinic—deliberating about breast cancer risk assessment, treatment, genetics as well as the importance of early breast cancer screening.

Haddad also discussed the newest developments on the disease, including assessments and genetic screening, and innovative treatment options. She also constantly highlighted the importance of early detection and constant check-ups in battling and preventing breast cancer—citing that when detected ahead of time, there is “a 99% chance of recovery.”

“Most women who develop breast cancer do not even have family history of this disease. The American College of Radiology and Society of Breast Imaging recommends a mammogram screening every year once they reach the age of 40. By getting checked early on and speaking with your healthcare provider, you can better understand the risk and learn more about the best breast cancer screening options for you,” she said.

The seminar, which was attended by the female employees of The Kanoo Group across all divisions and its Joint Ventures, concluded with a free blood and cholesterol screening along with BMI —with healthcare professionals assisting the guests and providing advise on how to improve their lifestyle, and subsequently, their health.

The Breast Cancer Awareness Month, also known as the Pink Month, is celebrated every October in a global effort to raise awareness about the disease. During this month, efforts are being done across the world to educate everyone about the disease, as well as highlight the importance early detection.

The seminar is one of the many CSR initiatives of The Kanoo Group as part of its steadfast commitment to hone other key and vital areas of the society. Through its commitment to CSR, The Kanoo Group mirrors its pledge to work unremittingly to give back to the communities through responsible operations, activities, and protection of the things most important to the society.
