The Kanoo Group successfully concludes the 21st blood donation campaign


Blood Donation Campaign 2020 at The Kanoo Group

Dubai, UAE: As part of its ongoing commitment to promote a culture of social responsibility and to support government initiatives, The Kanoo Group once again concluded a successful blood donation campaign, in partnership with Dubai Blood Donation Center – Latifa Hospital, on 23rd January 2020.

Held at The Kanoo Group premises in Karama, Dubai, the 21st blood donation campaign drew the participation of 99 registered donations from staff and members of The Kanoo Group. The day-long campaign resulted in 75 successful donors after the standard screening.

Ms Maha Kanoo, Head of HR and Marketing–The Kanoo Group (UAE & Oman), said, “We are honoured to be supporting this yearly cause at The Kanoo Group which promotes the values of unity among our employees as responsible members of our society. It also raises community awareness about the importance of blood donation and its role in saving many lives.”

“Through this initiative, we achieve aligned goals with the government to help patients with thalassemia, anaemia, accident sufferers, and other illnesses, as well as support government hospital blood banks in providing a safe and adequate supply of blood,” she added.

On the recently concluded campaign, Mr Ali Islim, Marketing Manager (UAE & Oman), said, “Special thanks to every blood donor. Your donations make a big difference in the lives of many patients. Because of your generosity, lives will be saved.”

“We are grateful to the Management mainly to Ms Maha Kanoo and Mr Fahad Kanoo for their support in again making this initiative possible; to our team (Marketing) for organising the event and Property and HR teams for their support, and to everyone at The Kanoo Group who continuously believe in this great cause.”
“We hope that you continue to be a part of this regular important event, and we hope that our numbers increase as we move to the next. Together, we can make a difference,” he concluded.

The Kanoo Group lastly gave tokens of appreciation to all contributors of the blood donation campaign–a customised watch with The Kanoo Group emblem, which was generally well-received by employees.

Kanoo Shipping South Africa handles first of this year’s flights to Antarctica
Kanoo Shipping is handling the first of this year's flights, the ‘Dassault Falcon 7X’, supporting various Antarctic Research bases. The operation is based in Cape Town which is the preferred gateway for the DROMLAN community. The season runs from November 2019 to February 2020.

Kanoo Shipping ̶ South Africa which assists a number national bases in Antarctica have commenced their Antarctic season and provides a range of services to support these bases, including logistics support for 10-12 flights & ship agency services for the general cargo vessel that sails to the ice shelf each year. 

The said gateway, the DROMLAN (Dronning Maud Land Air Network Project), is a coordinated project between 11 countries with bases in Queen Maud Land (Norwegian: Dronning Maud Land) to create a coordinated logistics service to reduce costs. These countries are South Africa, Belgium, Finland, Germany, India, Japan, the Netherlands, Norway, Russia, Sweden and the United Kingdom.

Jonathan Bygrave, CEO, Kanoo Shipping said, “It is not often that a humble ship agent can claim to be the first on a continent ̶ although we were in our region, we have been around since 1890... But Kanoo Shipping has put in a claim following the handling of the first of this year's flights (Dassault Falcon 7X) supporting various Antarctic Research bases.”

The Kanoo Group celebrates the 49th Oman National Day


Muscat, Oman: The Kanoo Group celebrated the 49th Oman National Day held on 18th November 2019 at its head office in Azaiba, Muscat. It was attended by employees from Kanoo Shipping Muscat branch, as well as from the Accounts, HR, and Administration departments.  

On the auspicious occasion, Oman Nationals and Expats alike came together for a banquet meal with a festive spirit, while exchanging pleasantries and National Day greetings to commemorate the country's independence. It was followed by a cake-cutting ceremony led by Mr Janaka Hewage (Shipping Manager), Mr Vijay Shankar (Accounts Manager) and Mr Mustafa Mohamed (HR & Administration Manager).
The entire office was adorned with miniature flags and tricolour decorations signifying the colours of the Oman flag (red, white and green) to mark the celebration.

The 49th Oman National Day was the start of a two-day break, as 19th November was also declared a public holiday to mark the 79th birthday of His Majesty Sultan Qaboos bin Said.

Dubai, UAE: The Kanoo Group, one of the longest-running, family-owned conglomerates in the region won the“Best Talent Acquisition Team – Other MENA Countries” and nominated as a finalist in the “Best Employer Brand 500 to 1000 employees” at the 2019 LinkedIn MENA Talent Awards.

The 5th Edition of MENA Talent Awards was held at the Four Seasons Resort in Jumeirah, Dubai on 20th November 2019 under the theme, “The Future of Talent” with the presence of the UAE Minister of State for Artificial Intelligence, Omar bin Sultan Al Olama.

Kanoo Shipping conducts 2019 regional meeting in Dubai


Dubai, UAE: Kanoo Shipping conducted its Annual Regional Meeting to review performances and challenges in 2019 and to discuss new strategic objectives and goals for the next year.

Kanoo Shipping executives from across the Middle East/Africa including UAE, Oman, Saudi Arabia and Bahrain attended the meeting held at the Hilton Garden Inn Dubai Al Mina, on 6th-7th November 2019.

The first day of the conference discussed the theme, “Strategy 2020-2022” which was targeted for members of the management. The agenda included Strategy Key Driver 2020 -2022, Regional Hub Vision, Sales Incentive Plan, and Technology Innovation and ‘Breaking the Curve’.

In attendance were Jonathan Bygrave, CEO; Nikolai Norman, CCO (Regional Commercial); Steve Blackney, COO (Regional Operations); Andre De Kock, Vice President – Finance; John Drinkwater, Vice President (UAE & Oman); Essa Al Dossary, Regional Manager (KSA Eastern Province); Mohammad Sadiq Khan, Offshore Manager (Bahrain & KSA); Captain Amresh Jha, Development & Country Manager (India); Jonathan Millar, General Manager (South Africa); and Supreeya Doran, Regional Commercial Executive.

Jonathan Bygrave said, “One of the goals of this yearly meeting is to make sure that everyone is on the same direction as we move into our next stage of development and reach a consensus on several important projects, issues and roles going forward.”

“We definitely have some challenges ahead and changes afoot, as well as potential further expansion among others, so it’s important that we all push the same way as we look forward for a brighter tomorrow,” he urged.
The second day of the meeting was joined by Shipping Managers across the region including Sadiq Khan, Offshore Manager (Bahrain & KSA); Captain Amresh Jha, Development & Country Manager (India); Jonathan Millar, General Manager (South Africa); Mahasara Iddawela, Regional Customer Service Manager; Angelo Marcantonio, Regional Commercial Manager (ME/Africa), Roger Maniago, Regional Operations – Africa Hub; and Janaka Hewage, Shipping Manager (Oman), Foaad Al Johani, Branch Manager (Yanbu); and Mohamed Qurban, Shipping Manager (Bahrain).

Captain Pramod Arora, Shipping Manager (UAE – EC- Fujairah); Aloka Mandis, Shipping Manager (Abu Dhabi); Shihab Gulabdin, Service Manager (UAE); Muhammad Farooq, Operations Manager (UAE – NE);  Murli Krishna, Assistance Tanker Manager; Mariano Aledron, Assistant Quality Manager (UAE & Oman); and Gayan Lanka Weerakkody, Shipping Executive were delegates from the UAE.

The topics discussed were Strategy objectives and goals, Financials & financial forecasts, Cost saving initiatives, IT Technology Development (KPI) Project Update, Sales strategy & Customer category trends and forecasts, Kanoo India and South Africa up and Operations & Quality improvements.

The recent Kanoo Shipping Regional Meeting was hailed a resounding success with the commitment of participants in addressing key effective solutions towards sustainable development. This is also evident through their consistently excellent performance in the past decades.
For the second year in a row, Kanoo Shipping has won the Ship Agent of the Year (2018 & 2019) at the Seatrade Maritime Awards, the leading Maritime Award program for the Middle East, Indian Subcontinent & Africa. The prestigious title is awarded to the best from amongst industry players across the region for extraordinary contributions to the development of the regional maritime sector.

Deputy Chairman Mohamed Abdul Latif Kanoo meets Sinopec and ADNOC Refining teams

Abu Dhabi, UAE: A high-level delegation from China’s Sinopec Catalyst Co Ltd (SSC) met with The Kanoo Group’s Deputy Chairman Mohamed Abdul Latif Kanoo and Kanoo Energy (Oil & Gas Division) leaders together with the ADNOC Refining teams in Abu Dhabi to discuss potential business opportunities.

Razauddin Shaikh, Operations Manager; Sreenivas Aluru, Regional Operations Manager (UAE & Oman); and Mohammad Azharuddin, Sales Engineer (Chemical, Oil and Gas – OFSS) from Kanoo Energy (Oil & Gas Division), as well as ADNOC Refining’s team led by Ahmed Al Hameli, Vice President (Procurement) participated in the meeting.

ADNOC Refining (AR) is previously known as The Abu Dhabi Oil Refining Company (TAKREER) and is the operational entity of the Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC). AR is a valued client of The Kanoo Group.
The Sinopec Catalyst Co., Ltd. (SCC), a wholly-owned subsidiary of China Petroleum & Chemical Corporation, being led by Zhao Ping, Department Manager (Chemicals Department) and Chen Zunjiang, Executive Director came to the UAE to promote their various refinery processes, provision of technical support and global references.
During the meeting, SSC gave a detailed presentation to the team on the kind of catalysts they manufacture. SCC is one of the world's leading oil refining & chemical catalyst manufacturers, suppliers and service providers. It produces six kinds of catalysts including oil refining, polyolefin, basic organic raw materials, coal chemical industry, environment protection, and others. The productive meeting was well received by the participants.

“We have been working with SCC for more than a year now and they are very much impressed with the services and support that we provide to them till date. We look forward to establishing a long-term strategic and collaborative partnership with SSC to serve our client, ADNOC Refining, and other petrochemical companies in the UAE”, said Razauddin Shaikh.

“While meeting the needs of the domestic market, SCC has been exploring and developing the international markets including Europe, Americas, Asia, Africa, and so on,” he added.

By implementing innovation-driven development strategy, SCC constantly improves the preparation of the engineering technology R&D capabilities and technical service capabilities to be a world-class international high-tech catalyst company with many characteristics in areas such as Sci-tech, production service and advanced green manufacturing.
During the visit, Mr. Mohamed Kanoo welcomed Mr. Chen and team to the UAE and The Kanoo Group and spoke about the history of the Kanoo family and business across the region. He also extended his support to SCC and wished them success in their business objectives in the UAE.
