BRC Arabia Participates in the 2nd PCI International Symposium

January 23, 2015 – Dubai, UAE: BRC Arabia LLC (formerly BRC Arabia FZC), a leading producer / supplier of reinforcing steel products in the UAE and GCC market since 1996 and a member of The Kanoo Group, participated in the 2nd PCI International Symposium on Precast Concrete which was held at the Dubai World Trade Centre on 19th – 22nd January 2015.

Building on the great success of the 1st Symposium, BRC Arabia joined the recent edition as a Silver Sponsor. Mr. Assaad Mawad, Mr. Tennyson Jebaraj, Mr. Omar Saifan, Mr. Samuiel Malak, Mr. William Rebello and Mr. Nasser Awan of BRC Arabia took part in the seminars which covered topics related to the advancement of precast usage, research and applications in various construction sectors.

The international symposium was hosted by Precast and Pre-stressed Concrete Institute (PCI), a premiere US organisation and the world leader in plant produced precast concrete products and structural systems and e.Construct, a Dubai-based value Engineering Consultancy. The seminars featured world-renowned speakers to encourage the sharing of best practices in the use of precast and pre-stressed concrete.

It discussed topics such as sustainability, high performance self-leveling concrete, architectural façade treatments, and accelerated bridge construction - which are highly relevant to Pre-cast concrete companies and industry professionals who have the opportunity to gain a wealth of knowledge.

Members of BRC Arabia also displayed products highlights in their dedicated exhibition stand which drew a lot of attention and interest to both visitors and other participants, and one of the few sponsor stands that was visited by His Excellency Hussain Nasser Lootah, Director General of Dubai Municipality. 

BRC Arabia presented their specialized (flat and bended) Welded Wire Mesh that gives flexibility to the Reinforcement solution for Precast Industries, saving time and cost. It was generally a phenomenal success. 

All participants in the event were also awarded with certificates of attendance by the PCI and at the same time provided with relevant PCI publications.

The Kanoo Group pays tribute to UAE National Day

Dubai, UAE: Employees at ‘The Kanoo Group’ came together to commemorate the UAE’s 43rd National Day on 1st December 2014 with festivity and colors of the UAE flag adorned all around The Kanoo Group building in Bur Dubai to highlight the spirit of union and honorable history of the nation.

It has been a long-standing tradition of The Kanoo Group to celebrate the UAE National Day which is hosted with a banquet and a special get-together for senior leaders as well as staff from various departments. 

The recent episode again captured the Emirati spirit, filled with fun and excitement, with employees wearing scarves and badges bearing the flag of the union.

For more than 4 decades, the people of the UAE have witnessed the rise of the country and its society in excellence and high competitiveness in the global level which they all share with sense of pride and celebration for the success and accomplishments of the UAE.

Senior management including Ms. Maha Kanoo, Mr. P.S. Ganapathi and Mr. Bob Curtis also took part in the colorful showcase of traditional celebration and feast as a mark of achievement and story of development of the country.

New training facility targets business needs

Dubai, UAE: Power Systems Gulf LLC (PSG), a member of The Kanoo Group, a strategic business unit and the appointed distributor for Perkins in the Gulf Region opened the doors to their new Training facility for Perkins products in The Kanoo Group Jebel Ali facility on 5th November 2014, ushering in a generation of advanced product innovation and accelerated learning, to benefit Perkins customers, dealers and end-users in the region.
Gracing the event, Mr. Bob Curtis, CEO, The Kanoo Group – UAE & Oman said, "Investing in knowledge-based capabilities will help us expand our commitment to provide the most innovative systems and approach to better serve our consumers and to continuously aim for global standards.

The training facility includes a dedicated classroom and conference area to hold up to 20 participants each at a time, as well as indoor office and practical area equipped with modern devices, tools and systems to expedite leading-edge engineering, product and process learning development. Trainees get hands-on training on disassembly / assembly of engines and study the performance characteristics, diagnostics and fault-finding of a running engine. For those who successfully complete the courses, completion Certificates from Perkins will be issued online. 

PSG Technical & Training Manager Shaik Rahim has demonstrated that he delivers training to the highest standards that are expected by Perkins. He is currently coaching and mentoring Service Engineer Shiju Thomas to become a trainer.

The full-fledged PSG Regional Training facility will be home to OEMs, OEM Dealers, their customers and other end-users of Perkins engines to address the market needs in UAE, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Kuwait, Qatar, Oman and Yemen for highest quality service and product support through knowledge gained methodically and working with latest technical information on products.
Mr. Shaik Rahim said, “The plan to eventually create an exclusive Training facility for Perkins products was realized after studying the growing demands for product support requirements based on the number of Perkins engines entering the market every year. This project was implemented as part of Perkins strategy to grow and sustain 'Best in class' Distribution network.”

Following the event, Mr. David Brady, Perkins Global Training Coordinator assessed the entire facility as well as the trainers. He spent 3 days at the company’s product training and observed the training courses being run that demonstrated all sorts of application scenarios which tested the skills and knowledge of trainers and evaluated their training performances, with a view to eventually certify the training facility as meeting global standards documented by the Perkins Training Guild.

During the final meeting, the Perkins Global Training Coordinator has reaffirmed Mr. Rahim’s status as a District Trainer. He likewise confirmed Mr. Thomas as a certified Perkins District Trainer and commented on his considerable progress from his last assessment and gave remarks on his potential to grow further. He lastly noted of certain key actions to be completed to reach the global standards for the facility for certain models of engines, which PSG should be able to complete by the end of this year.

Mr. Krishna Warrier, Sales and Marketing Manager; Mr. Karthik Harsha, Parts Analyst; Mr. Reuben Dias, Engine Sales & Applications Engineer and Mr. Mohammed Suhail, Regional Parts Sales Coordinator, also members of the PSG Team, took part in the success of the event.

Concisely, Power Systems Gulf will continue to provide excellence and to look after regional training and distribution strategy, the commercial operation and management of the Perkins engines distribution sales development and product support capability across the Gulf region.

Antiquorum has set world records for auction sales with previews being held in major cities worldwide. The preview schedule started in Zurich, Hong Kong, Shanghai, Singapore, and with the recent stop to Dubai where local watch collectors had the chance to see over 200 impressive horological highlights including an exceptional Singing Bird Cage Clock attributed to Jaquet-Droz et Leschot Geneva and an outstanding Patek Philippe Ref. 2499, Third Series. 

The auction will be held on 8th and 9th November 2014 at the Mandarin Oriental Hotel in Geneva.

The Dubai-based event also placed a spotlight for available complimentary estimates on clients’ fine time pieces by Antiquorum Watch Experts.

Established in Geneva in 1974, Antiquorum has carved its own unparalleled niche in the auction world through its focused expertise in horology and by cultivating a thriving collector's market for timepieces worldwide. 

The top highlight of the sale is unquestionably the Exceptional Early & Small Singing Bird Cage Clock with Automaton Jumping Bird & Automaton Waterfall attributed to Jaquet-Droz et Leschot Geneva. Made circa 1785, this is an extremely fine and diminutive, gilded-brass, automaton singing bird clock with “jumping” early-type painted bird with automated beak, wings, tail and automaton waterfall activated at will and by the clock every three hours. Collectors will appreciate the magical jumping effect of the bird, the delicacy of workmanship in the cage’s construction as well as the “ball and claw feet” that are distinctive of the workshop Jaquet-Droz.

Another outstanding highlight of the auction is the Patek Philippe Ref. 2499, Third Series retailed by Beyer (Zurich). Made in 1980 and from the property of the original owner, this is a very fine and rare 18K gold wristwatch with round button chronograph, 30-minute register, perpetual calendar and moon phases. It is accompanied by the Extract from the Archives.

Also offered is an extraordinary Blancpain 1735 Grand Complication, No. 03/30. Produced in a limited edition of 30 pieces in the 1990’s, this is a rare and important astronomic, minute-repeating wristwatch with one-minute tourbillon regulator, round-button co-axial split-seconds chronograph, register, perpetual calendar, moon phases and moon age. This outstanding timepiece is one of the most complicated wristwatches ever made and required six years of research, development and testing before it could be presented. It is offered with a fitted wooden box, loupe, setting pin, instruction annual, Blancpain collection booklet and hand-written certificate.

Patek Philippe enthusiasts will also want to bid on the Patek Philippe Ref. 5004, made in 1998. This fine and important 18K pink gold wristwatch features a split-seconds chronograph, registers, a perpetual calendar, moon phases, leap year and 24 hour indication. Accompanied by a fitted wooden box and Certificate of Origin.

Modern watch enthusiasts will be enticed by the Greubel Forsey Tourbillon 30 ° Vision. Made in 2004, this is a rare and large 18K white gold wristwatch with 30° inclined visible inner one minute tourbillon regulator, visible outer four-minutes tourbillon regulator with four minute rotation indicator, twin barrels and 72-hour power reserve. The double off-set tourbillons featured in this extraordinary timepiece continually compensate for gravity–induced errors on the oscillator in all positions, allowing for superior chronometric performance. This remarkable timepiece is accompanied by the user manual/guarantee.

Also offered from Patek Philippe is the exceptional Patek Philippe Celestial, Ref. 5102, made in 2003. This is a fine and unusual 18K white gold wristwatch with meantime indication, nocturnal chart of the Northern Hemisphere, moon phases and moon orbit, time of the meridian passage of Sirius and moon. It is presented with a Certificate of Origin, leather instruction folder and booklet.

Another stand-out Patek Philippe presented in the sale is the rare Patek Philippe Ref. 5020 in pink gold, sold in 2002. Also known as the “TV watch”, this rare reference is a tonneau-shaped wristwatch with round-button chronograph, register, 24-hour indication, perpetual calendar and moon phases. Adding to its desirability, it is offered with its Original Certificate of Origin confirming its pink gold case and silver dial with Breguet numerals.

Not to be over-looked is the Patek Philippe Ref. 1463 “Without Indexes & Timing Scale” with Probably Unique Dial in Yellow Gold. Made in 1956, this is an extremely fine and probably unique 18K gold wristwatch with round button chronograph and register. Accompanied by the Extract from the Archives.

The automaton lover will be delighted by the extremely rare Isaac Daniel Piguet “The Heart,” an Exceptional Musical Watch with See-Saw Musician & Windmill Automatons. Made for the Eastern market circa 1820, this is a rare and important, musical, gold painted on enamel, pearl and turquoise-set heart-shaped quarter repeating watch with three automaton actions – sea-saw, musician and windmill, activated at will. 


Estimate: CHF 100,000 – 200,000

Rolex is well represented in the sale with the much sought-after Rolex Ref. 6241 Paul Newman. Made in 1968 and from the property of an English collector, this is a very rare stainless steel wristwatch with anti-reflective black tachometer bezel, round button chronograph, registers and a Rolex Ref. 7205 stainless steel Oyster riveted bracelet. It is offered in mint condition and is accompanied by Rolex UK service warranty dated 2005 and 1987.

Patek Philippe Reg. 866/4 Unique Watch with Enamel Miniature “The Shepard in Love” By Madame Bischoff.
Made in 1972, this is a unique and exceptional, 18K yellow gold keyless dress watch with polychrome painted on enamel miniature “The Shepard In Love” signed M. Bischoff. Known as one of the great enamellists who worked for Patek Philippe along with Suzanne Rohr and J. Pellarine LeRoy, Madame Bischoff’s work shows great depth and tonality particularly in the rendering of shadows and the human form. Patek Philippe Ref. 715/8 Watch with Unique Enamel Miniature of A Peony and Flower Bouquet By J. Pellarin-Leroy
Made in 1969, this is an extremely fine and unique, 18K yellow gold keyless dress watch with exceptional polychrome painted on enamel miniature of flowers. The Extract from the Archives confirms the manufacture of this watch in 1969 and the painted enamel of flowers on the case back. Collectors will appreciate Pellarin-Leroy’s extremely well-executed flowers in beautiful pastel shades.

Also for the Rolex aficionado, Antiquorum experts are pleased to present the Rolex Ref. 3525 Black Dial in 18K Yellow Gold. Made circa 1938, this is a very fine and rare antimagnetic, 18K yellow gold wristwatch with round-button chronograph, register, tachometer and telemeter. Purchased new in Switzerland by the father of the consignor, this example is without a doubt the nicest example of a reference 3525 to appear at auction in the last ten years.
