NEW SIDE BATTERY EXCHANGE FOR HYSTER® ELECTRIC TRUCKS

Side battery exchange is now an option on selected Hyster® 1.5T – 3.5T electric counterbalance trucks.  Exchange takes just a few minutes, helping multi-shift applications.
“The new side battery extraction option is simple and convenient and will suit many manufacturing and logistics applications,” says Phil Ireland, Senior Product Manager, Counterbalance Solutions for Hyster.  “Battery exchange on Hyster® trucks is fast and efficient in order to minimise downtime and help keep trucks working for longer.”
This new variation means that there is now a choice of five different battery exchange methods across a selection of robust and dependable 48V and 80V Hyster® electric forklifts, suiting various infrastructures and budgets.
To coincide with the new side exchange option, a Hyster® Powered Battery Exchange Stacker has also been launched.  Predominantly for customers with no existing infrastructure to allow battery exchange, the Hyster® S2.4 HBE provides one easy to use exchange tool that works with all battery sizes used on Hyster® 1.5T-3.5T electric counterbalance trucks.
Using the specially designed stacker truck, the battery sits in a battery tray which is lifted in and out of the counterbalance truck as one. The battery and tray can then be placed down on to a battery stand while it is recharged.  This convenient option, which still works when a lift truck is at full tyre wear, ensures that exchange can be achieved in just a few minutes.
The Hyster® Powered Battery Exchange Stacker also features an on-board charger to allow the truck to be handily charged in any power socket.
Uninterrupted access to the side of the truck also makes changing the battery easier than ever for those who wish to do so using a separate forklift.   The battery can be accessed via the hinged, 180° fold-back door which locks open on the J1.5-2.0XNT and J1 .6-2.0XN series, or the 150° hinged opening door on the J2.2-3.5XN.
Virtually any standard forklift truck can remove the battery sitting in its tray with ease by using the fork pockets in the truck frame - the battery tray has ‘feet’ that prevent the battery from moving once in position.  This option is likely to prove an ideal solution in facilities which have several fork lift trucks on one site.
Businesses that have already made the investment in the necessary roller beds and ancillary equipment will also benefit from easy access to the side of the trucks.  Whereas for those who have already installed an overhead crane or prefer to use fork lifting eyes, Hyster® electric forklift trucks can still be specified with vertical battery exchange.
“Whatever equipment you may already have to extract your battery, there is now a tough Hyster® electric truck to match those needs,” says Phil. “This new option of side battery exchange allows applications to specify both the right choice of truck and the best battery extraction method for their facility.”
Side battery exchange is available on the J1.5-2.0XNT series and the four wheeled J1.6-2.0XN and J2.2-3.5XN series’ and is an example of the wide range of power options available from Hyster.

The Kanoo Group hosts 2017 Iftar Party for Employees

Dubai, UAE: With reverence for Ramadan as the holiest month of the Islamic calendar, The Kanoo Group once again hosted its annual Iftar Party for all its employees to celebrate the holy season, held at the JW Marriott Hotel in Dubai on June 22, 2017.

The Corporate Iftar was attended by Mr Mishal Kanoo, Chairman of The Kanoo Group and members of the Management, among other employees in the UAE from different departments.

Iftar is an Arabic term which literally means the breaking of the fast. It is the evening meal when Muslims end their daily Ramadan fast at sunset. Traditionally, they break the fast by water and dates and join together for a holy prayer, then come back to share a delightful meal to end the period of abstinence. The joined holy prayer was led by Mr Mishal Kanoo.

Over time, Iftar has grown into banquet festivals with religious significance and meaning. The Kanoo Group has been organising the event every year as a worthwhile gathering for colleagues and their families, and to share the spirit of solidarity.
For all Muslim communities across the world, Ramadan is a symbol of the same base values of unparalleled importance: family and community, goodwill and charity, and spiritual reflection.

The Kanoo Group brings Eid joy to underprivileged children

Dubai, UAE: As a way of giving back to the community and making a difference in other peoples’ lives, The Kanoo Group has supported 57 needy children through the ‘Joy of Eid’, a project by Rawafed Centre, in partnership with the Red Crescent.

The ‘Joy of Eid’ initiative gives a chance to disadvantaged children to go shopping for their Eid finery where volunteers are encouraged to come and take part in the shopping experience. Eid is a festival of celebration and one of the many joys of Eid is wearing new clothes.

Shadia Abdullah, a social worker from Rawafed Centre together with few helpers brought the children to the Red Tag Department Store in Arabian Centre where volunteers from The Kanoo Group accompanied the children to go shopping for 2 hours on 20th June 2017.
Over 25 employees took part in the heart-warming experience in drawing precious smiles on children’s faces. Paid coupons by The Kanoo Group were distributed to the staff, and each volunteer helped two kids buy their clothes and shoes.  Feedback from employees shows that they also had a great time and themselves benefitted from the giving and sharing experience.

Ms Maha Kanoo, General Manager for Administration, HR and Marketing of The Kanoo Group, said, “Helping those in need through various charity initiatives has always been one of the programs of The Kanoo Group. The ‘Joy of Eid’ project is filled with the spirit of generosity and kindness, and we see real happiness in those children’s eyes. They feel the joy and happiness of Eid as any other family would.”
The charity event received a tremendous feedback from Rawafed Centre and in particular the kids, who truly had a fantastic Eid experience.

HYSTER® TALKS ZERO EMISSIONS AND DOUBLE REEFER HANDLING AT TOC 2017

Hyster Europe discusses project to electrify container handlers and 11T high capacity empty container handlers at TOC in Amsterdam on 27-29 June. Jan-Willem van den Brand from Hyster explains this project, and more, at this years’ TOC Show.
Electrified laden container handlers
Terminals are expected to be able to electrify their Big Truck fleets and produce zero emissions, while achieving full shift performance comparable to a diesel-powered truck in the near future. A 52-tonne capacity Hyster® laden container handling truck with an electric motor will shortly be entering the test phase.
Innovative, high-voltage big electric trucks will be able to support continuous operation with operator-friendly re-charge, or, at a later date, quick H2 (hydrogen fuel) refill options. The Hyster team will be available at TOC to talk about how the company plans to move the industry forward with electrification.
 New 11T empty container handler
Hyster is also launching the H11XM-ECD9 Empty Container Handler which enables double handling capabilities for any empty container, even 40ft reefers carrying the refrigeration units on the same side causing a severe offset load. With a capacity of 11 tonnes, it offers significant productivity advantages, as empty containers nowadays regularly exceed a tare weight of 5 tonnes, particularly reefers with wet floors.
Alongside the tough new H11XM-ECD9, there are four other new models in the H8-11XM-ECD9 series, which replaces the popular H18-23XM-12EC series, and will suit both current and future empty container handling requirements.
The size and number of reefers are growing around the world. This lift truck offers more flexibility so operators don’t have to handle 40ft reefers separately, saving throughput time. Hyster has been a key player in the growing “empty” market for many years and has further improved the product to help reduce the cost per container moved.

Container weighing for VGM
To enable operations to easily obtain this Verified Gross Mass (VGM) for SOLAS*, especially in areas where Legal for Trade regulations are applied, the Hyster® Static Plus weighing system is now available on new and existing Hyster® ReachStackers and Laden Container Handlers.
Operators simply pick a container and lift the load. There is no workflow disruption as the container weighing can occur during truck manoeuvring and the system is highly accurate with a weighing error of approximately 1 per cent of load weight. Furthermore, with the system custom field entries are possible, including container I.D., destination, location and more.
As well as providing VGM data, the Static Plus system provides accurate information for logistics compliance and reporting. Analysis of this information can also help operations to improve efficiency in container handling applications.

Connected machines
Smart terminals can boost their efficiency and save money by analysing truck usage data, restricting truck access and controlling daily checks. Hyster Tracker is a telematics system that can help identify under or over-utilised equipment, by truck, fleet or location. Hour meter, cost of operation, periodic maintenance, fault codes and impacts can all be tracked and additional functionality includes operator access control.
To drive down fuel or power costs, the idle shutdown function can also be set to power off a truck after a pre-determined amount of time. Operator Pre-shift Checklist Tracking is also possible, providing the quickest way to determine any issues with a truck so that downtime is reduced.

Virtual reality experience
On the Hyster® stand at TOC, visitors will be able to try a virtual reality simulator which accurately re-creates the experience of using a 3 tonne Hyster® Fortens® counterbalance lift truck.  Anyone can get behind the wheel for an immersive 3D experience of even the toughest operating conditions.
The simulator has the same seat as featured on the Hyster® Fortens® model plus the same pedals, steering wheel, CANBus and hydraulic controls.  The user wears a VR headset and as the head turns it gives different views through the mast, up, down and to the side, while spectators watch the activity on a screen.

Special engineering and support for efficient port and terminal handling
Most Hyster® Big Trucks have some sort of customised engineering, because every operation is different. Hyster creates solutions that efficiently overcome specific challenges.
With a full range of handling equipment suitable for ports and terminals, from ship to port-side store, Hyster offers support globally via its network of strong partners. Hyster® product managers and specialists will be on stand F74 at TOC Europe.

Dubai, UAE: Kanoo Energy, a member of The Kanoo Group, one of the suppliers of power & industrial projects in the Middle East, recently completed a subcontracting project for fall arrest systems on ‘Ain Dubai’, a project by Meraas, set to be the world’s largest observation wheel.
Ain Dubai (previously Dubai-I) on Bluewaters Island, off the Jumeirah Beach Residence coastline
Renamed ‘Ain Dubai’ (previously ‘Dubai-I’), the observation wheel will offer 360-degree views of Dubai, located on Bluewaters Island, off the Jumeirah Beach Residence coastline, with dimensions far exceeding any similar existing structure. The project’s main contractor is Hyundai Engineering & Construction.

The assembled hub and spindle is approximately 40 metres long and 20 metres high and weighs 1,805 tonnes, equivalent to four A380 aircraft. The hub will later be connected to the rim through 192 spoke cables, with the structure then resembling a gigantic bicycle wheel.
The scope of work included Supply, Installation & Certification of vertical lifeline system (Lad-Saf Systems) inside the legs. The hub of the Ain Dubai consists of 4 cylindrical legs of 120 metres height, 17 vertical ladders of 30 feet inside each leg, and 14 ladders inside the spindle which is 150 metres above the ground level.

Kanoo Energy – PIP Division, having the only fall protection team certified in the Region to install such systems and trained to work at such heights successfully completed the installation & certification of all the ladders inside the legs & the spindle. The team shall also recertify the system annually.
Once completed, the Ain Dubai will feature 48 capsules and a holding capacity of up to 1,400 visitors at any given time – with a full rotation of the Ain Dubai taking 48 minutes. Ain Dubai will be the centrepiece of Bluewaters Island, which will feature retail, residential, entertainment and hospitality offerings.
