The Kanoo Group launches new luxury compound villas in Jumeirah

Dubai, UAE: Following the successful launch of Al Safeena Villas, its first villa compound project, The Kanoo Group has again demonstrated a remarkable role in the forefront of Dubai’s ever-growing property needs at the city’s prime location by recently launching its second and third compound project, the new Haya and Alyazzi Villas in Jumeirah.

The Kanoo Group bids farewell to outgoing Chief Financial Officer P.S. Ganapathi

Dubai, UAE: A chapter of The Kanoo Group’s history was inscribed on Tuesday 8th May 2018, when members of The Kanoo Group bid farewell to veteran CFO PS Ganapathi who is retiring after over four decades of working for the company. For the group, he is considered part of the Family.

At the farewell tribute held at Park Regis Kris Kin Hotel in Bur Dubai, Mr. Mishal Kanoo, Chairman of The Kanoo Group took deep breaths and appeared emotional as he delivered his wonderful speech for the outgoing CFO, in the presence of department heads, joint venture partners, and staff.

He said, “I’m tremendously grateful for all the hard work and the many sacrifices you’ve made for The Kanoo Group. Working with you has made my time with the company nothing short of a privilege. You are like a rock where I could always put my ship to anchor and not worry. Now that you are retiring, I feel sad and happy at the same time. Sad to see you go, but happy that you will finally be spending time with your direct family. After all, we are a family business. And family is the most important aspect of our lives.”

“You have been a great colleague, partner, peer, and a great mentor to your team. From the bottom of my heart and from all your family over here, I wish you a beautiful, happy, enjoyable retirement,” he added.

Mr. PS Ganapathi would be delegating his duties and responsibilities to Mr. Badri Ramaswamy, General Manager – Finance and Accounts, whom Mr. Mishal Kanoo described as ‘trained and groomed well by Mr. Ganapathi, with big shoes to fill in and would surely do a superb job.’
Mr. Bob Curtis, CEO and Mr. Fahad Kanoo, Executive Director in the UAE & Oman also expressed their sincerest thanks to Mr. PS Ganapathi for being a part of The Kanoo Group family. Mr. Bob Curtis said that despite professional differences at times, it has been great working with Mr. Ganapathi. Mr. Fahad Kanoo said that during his relatively short tenure with the company, he has learnt a lot from him.

Mr. Sean Bradley, the Managing Director of Freightworks recollected his long association with Mr. Ganapathi even before he joined Freightworks and acknowledged that Mr. Ganapathi has always helped and supported him whenever required. A number of employees as well gave their warm wishes and personal tribute messages to the retiring CFO.

In his parting speech, Mr. Ganapathi said, “The journey has been very exciting. It has been a great responsibility heading the finance and accounts division of a large company like The Kanoo Group with its many joint ventures. I believe I was able to deliver what was expected of me due to the cooperation of all concerned.”

He recalled how he has been a part of the growth of this organization from strength to strength over the years. He added that it was a privilege to have worked closely with the ex-Chairmen and UAE’s founding father Mr. Hamed Kanoo and also the ex-Chairman Mr. Yusuf Kanoo. He added that he had no words to thank the present Chairman Mr. Mishal Kanoo, for the trust and confidence reposed in him and for his unstinted support. He also acknowledged the affection shown by Mrs. Lulwa Kanoo, Miss Maha Kanoo and Mr. Bassem Kanoo. Mr. Ganapathi also thanked Mr. Fahad Kanoo, Mr. Mohamed Kanoo and Mr. Bob Curtis for the excellent association he had with them.
Mrs. Parvati Ganapathi was requested to say a few words about her husband. In her heart-warming speech, she said: “I believe that each and every one of us is blessed with great qualities, talents and abilities and it rests with us to discover, tap and develop them in order to achieve maximum success in life, mental peace and contentment.”

 “I partially agree that ‘behind every man’s success there is a woman’. I believe Ganapathi has been blessed with great qualities ... no doubt about it ... the deep understanding and patience, a positive attitude towards life and to fellow human beings in general. He has a big heart and is never judgmental. He is a thorough gentleman. On a personal note, Ganapathi is an awesome dad to our girls. ” she remarked.

Mr. Ganapathi thanked each and every one of his colleagues for their love and support and urged his colleagues to keep up the hard work for the continued growth of the organization. He wished them and their families a bright and happy future.
P.S. Ganapathi is a qualified Chartered Management Accountant from the U.K. and India and has been in charge of accounting and financial functions of The Kanoo Group in the UAE & Oman for the last several years. He has held various senior positions and has been a Member of the UAE & Oman Board and a Director of The Kanoo Group and some of the joint venture companies.
Some of Mr. Ganapathi’s remarkable achievements were being placed in the second spot at the Forbes Middle East’s list of Top Indian CFOs in the Arab World in 2014, and also one of the Top 50 Indian Business Executives in the Arab World  in 2017.

The Kanoo Group honoured by MOHRE for supporting Emiratisation policy

Dubai, UAE: The Kanoo Group and Kanoo Travel, along with other awardees received a certificate of Appreciation from the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation (MOHRE) in recognition for their strong support and interaction with the qualitative Emiratisation challenge, recently placed in the category of "Best Companies in Employment" in the Transport and Aviation Sector.

His Excellency Nasser bin Thani Al Hamli presented the award to The Kanoo Group and Kanoo Travel, along with other awardees, and thanked them for their efforts in achieving the objectives of the Emiratisation challenge and for excellent teamwork in reaching tangible and rapid results of national KPIs 2021.

Ms. Maryam Al Busaidy, The Kanoo Group’s Head of HR - Employee Services and Emiratisation, in collaboration with the HR team, led the campaign to reinforce the MOHRE and the General Civil Aviation Authority’s ‘Emiratisation Accelerators Program’, which aims to recruit 1,000 UAE Nationals in the said targeted sector within 100 days, in 2018.

The Accelerator’s goal is to integrate UAE Nationals in the strategic economic sectors of the UAE by providing added value job positions that will enhance economic activities in the country from its current 3.35% to 5% by 2021, through strategic partnerships with private sectors.
“Emiratisation is a major priority for the UAE Government and a national responsibility for all, which requires the integration of all national initiatives in this regard, in order to achieve the aspirations of the people of the UAE and to provide prosperity and a decent life for all members of society,” declared HH Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai.
According to the Ministry, the current total workforce in the Transportation and Storage Sector accounts to 150,000 ̶ of which 2,000 are UAE Nationals. In 2017, there were 20,000 job opportunities ̶ of which 5,000 to 7,000 were suitable opportunities for the UAE nationals, it added.

The Kanoo Group/Kanoo Travel has provided all the efforts for enabling the participation of UAE Nationals in the private sector.

Ms. Maryam Al Busaidy remarked, “We are very happy to receive this accolade which comes in recognition of our commitment to the UAE government’s Emiratisation program. Congratulations to The Kanoo Group/Kanoo Travel for this award!”

The Kanoo Group sponsors ‘From UAE with Love’ gift giving initiative

Dubai, UAE: The Kanoo Group, a staunch supporter of charity initiatives recently backed the Year of Zayed’s gift giving initiative by the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation, which aims to bring joy through toys to underprivileged children around the world, and to teach the UAE youth the value of giving.
‘From UAE with Love’ initiative was launched at the Central Galleria in Mirdif City Center on March 17-19, 2018 with an objective to collect toys, with Love gift box that can be customised with stickers and notes from giver.
Organised by Expat Media, the event saw parents & children and other donors drop off purchased gift sets as well as used toys to fill in the customised giant box. The toys were said to be sent to indigent children in Syria through the UAE Red Crescent.

Ms. Maha Kanoo, General Manager-Admin, HR, and Marketing, The Kanoo Group said, “This gift giving initiative inspires new means to spread the spirit of philanthropy while making donations easy and accessible.”

“We are thrilled to play our part to distribute these much-needed gifts to the underprivileged children and brighten up their spirits. This is just one of the great ways of how we can support our communities,” she added.


Apart from the gift giving, participants and spectators were thrilled and excited with the planned activities during the event such as fun face paintings, roving Cinderella, and mascots for kids to enjoy.

“The response to this gift-giving initiative led by the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation has been overwhelming. Thousands of people from the UAE, young and old, have come forward to give their small gesture of support to the less privileged,” Ma Felicidad De los Santos of Expat Media remarked.

Mishal Kanoo joins top UAE delegation for UAE-Japan business forum


Dubai, UAE: Mr. Mishal Kanoo, Chairman of The Kanoo Group (UAE & Oman) participated in the “UAE-Japan Strategic Economic Partnership Forum” as part of a high-level delegation headed by the Minister of Economy H.E. Eng. Sultan bin Saeed Al Mansoori, which was held in Tokyo, Japan on March 6-7, 2018.

H.E. Kosaburo Nishime, Japanese State Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry, welcomed the UAE delegation.

The recently concluded forum was attended by key UAE government entities and Japanese officials that included H.E. Abdullah Bin Ahmed Al Saleh, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Economy for Foreign Trade Affairs; H.E. Khalid Omran Al Ameri, UAE Ambassador to Japan; and Mr. Hiroyuki Ishige, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO), together with senior management of select major public and private business sectors including The Kanoo Group.

In cooperation with the Department of Economic Development – Abu Dhabi and the UAE Embassy in Tokyo, the official mission was organised in line with the Ministry’s efforts to further strengthen bilateral relations between the two countries and to explore investments opportunities.

The program kick-started with a message about ‘The Impact of Abenomics on Japanese Economy and its Issues,’ addressed by Mr. Atsushi Nakajima, Chairman, Research Institute of Economy, Trade and Industry (RIETI). It was held at Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO), a Japanese government-related organization that promotes mutually beneficial trade and investment relations between Japan and other nations.

The highlights of the mission consisted of business meetings, networking and match-making as well as arranged company meetings and site visits. These sessions aim to discuss ways to enhance mutual cooperation between the business sectors.

During the presentations of UAE companies, Mr. Mishal Kanoo delivered his keynote speech titled, “Learning from the Japanese Experience.” In his message, he stressed his admiration to the Japanese key attributes such as hard work, honesty, cleanliness, excellent work ethics and efficient environmental policies, among others, which are vital qualities towards partnership.

He also introduced The Kanoo Group and possible expansion opportunities. Furthermore, he gave emphasis on reinforcing The Kanoo Group’s partnership and economic relations with its Japanese affiliates. At present, The Kanoo Group is a joint venture partner of the Japanese giant, Mitsui O.S.K. Lines, Ltd, one of the world's largest global multimodal transportation companies.

One of the highlights of his trip was a meeting with Ms. Yuriko Koike who currently serves as the governor of Tokyo, the city's first female governor, and previously the Minister of Defense in the cabinet of Prime Minister Shinzō Abe.

Additionally, Mr. Mishal Kanoo along with Mr. Mahmood Mian personally met Mr. Yoshiyasu Fujiwara, President of TLV Co. Ltd., one of the world’s leading manufacturers of steam engineering products. For over 20 years, Kanoo Oil & Gas, a member of The Kanoo Group has been representing TLV as one of its product principals.

Kanoo, as part of the UAE delegation visited the Tokyo Port, one of the largest Japanese seaports, and one of the largest seaports in the Pacific Ocean; the Mori Building Company, a Japanese leading property management firm established in 1955; and the FOODEX JAPAN 2018, Asia's leading international food & beverage trade show, and other top Japanese firms.

Lastly, Mishal Kanoo expressed his desire for potential future partnerships in areas of development in various sectors/divisions of The Kanoo Group across the Middle East.

The Kanoo Group celebrates 46th UAE National Day

UAE: Employees from across The Kanoo Group divisions in the UAE, members of the Management including Mr. Mishal Kanoo, Chairman of The Kanoo Group; Ms. Maha Kanoo, General Manager for HR and Marketing; and Mr. P.S. Ganapathi, Director/Chief Financial Officer gathered for a celebration to mark the spirit of the union, held last week in Dubai Head office.

The UAE’s 46th National Day was observed through a symbolic meal gathering for employees featuring the local cuisine and displays of traditional creative arts and decorations. Employees showed up with festive moods and patriotic fervours as they wore costumes and embellishments with the UAE colours and others with traditional dresses, while some waved the UAE flags and performed cultural dances to the tune of the local songs.
Mr. Mishal Kanoo graced the ceremonial cake-cutting to start the celebration. He said, “Today, we all come together to celebrate our success as a reminder for us to honour our Founding Fathers for the birth of our nation. We reflect on the greatest achievements of our country as we embrace and harness innovation and technology, with the UAE becoming the central hub for business around the world.”


Similarly, the Abu Dhabi office also gathered its employees for the important celebration led by Mr. Mohamed Abdul Latif Kanoo, Deputy Chairman of The Kanoo Group.

Showcasing a glimpse of the rich cultural heritage, employees at Dubai HQ enjoyed the main stall attraction of the famous Majlis (an Arabic term meaning "a place of sitting"), one of the cornerstones of Emirati hospitality where families, friends, and neighbours would socially gather, in addition to assortments of UAE-inspired confectioneries and giveaways to add delight to the festivities.
