A Surefire Way to Set New Employees Up for Success

A person's first days or few weeks at a new job are a mix of excitement and anxiety as they settle into their new role and find out how they fit into the company culture.

The Kanoo Group understands the importance of a comprehensive orientation program and must execute this process effectively to ensure new employees get off to a great start.

The process begins with the Human Resources and Administration Department initiating a series of approaches to introducing new employees to the company's history, culture, and values.

The aim is to familiarize the new hires with documented procedures and work instructions needed as an easy reference for guidance on executing their work more efficiently and effectively, thus, providing standard quality products and services to clients at all times.

Induction Day is a full-day event that includes breakout sessions on company policies and procedures. New employees also have the opportunity to meet new members and get to know the company's history and culture firsthand.

"Our orientation program is designed to help new employees feel welcome and supported," said Ms Maha Kanoo, Director of Yusuf Bin Ahmed Kanoo (Holdings) BSC & Director of The Kanoo Group (UAE & Oman). "We want them to clearly understand our company's culture and values, to equip themselves with the knowledge and skills they need to succeed in their new role."

As Ms Maryam Al Busaidy, HR Manager - Administration & Emiratisation of The Kanoo Group (UAE & Oman), explains, "A good new staff orientation also makes sense for keeping employees engaged and happy with their decision to join the company. "Introduction to the company is more than just handing out laptops and showing new hires their desks. We want our new employees to be truly introduced to the company mission, vision, and values as well as start building relationships on day one."

One of the highlights of The Kanoo Group's induction program is a game-based learning session led by Ms Rose Santillan Flores, Asst HR & Admin Manager of The Kanoo Group (UAE). "We want our new employees to be excited about learning our company's policies and procedures", said Flores. "The game-based learning session is a great way to do that, and it also helps to break the ice making the event lively and engaging."

"Our main goal is to disseminate proper information to all our new employees in order to achieve effective implementation of the company’s policies & procedures, and most importantly, that they feel the sense of pride to be a part of the Kanoo family.", Flores added.

"The QHSE Department's involvement in the orientation process is an integral part of the program. This is to familiarize the new employees with our ISO 9001, 14001 & 45001 Management Systems. This will help them deliver their work efficiently and effectively in meeting customer's requirements," added Mr Victor Jaurigue, Asst Manager - QHSE Department of The Kanoo Group.

The Kanoo Group's orientation strategy is a comprehensive and effective way to welcome new employees and set them up for success. The modules are well-designed and engaging, and it helps new employees feel welcome and supported.

Welcome to the Kanoo Group family!

Kanoo Shipping launches new Port office in Hamriyah Free Zone Sharjah

Kanoo Shipping launches new Port office in Hamriyah Free Zone Sharjah

Kanoo Shipping has established a new port office in Hamriyah Free Zone adjacent to Hamriyah Port, a deepwater seaport and accompanying facilities located in Sharjah, United Arab Emirates. Hamriyah Port is part of a free trade zone for companies and a hub for the export and re-export of commodities to other world markets. Main deepwater port activities include petrochemical exports, container terminals and general cargo alongside berth depths of 14 meters.

Hamriyah Port can accommodate very large and deep drafted vessels and its main harbour is designed for handling LPG, oil products, general cargo, heavy-duty cargo, cement, grain and forest products. LPG loading terminal is currently operated by Petrofac, a leading international service provider to the energy industry. The inner harbour is located in the north part of the Hamriyah Free Zone. Offshore of Hamriyah, there is an SBM operated by BP, handling crude and condensate cargo.

Hamriyah Port is a few kilometres from Sharjah proper and industrial areas. Investors are able to save time and cost as the port is adjacent to Hamriyah Free Zone. It also has easy access to linking all seven emirates and provides connections to the adjacent Gulf States closer to the Straits of Hormuz.

With this new office of Kanoo Shipping, it said that their Husbandry, Crew Care, Port and Cargo Operations services to clients are more robust than ever as port authorities, Customs, Immigration and other government agencies are also located in the same vicinity.

The Kanoo Group adopts protective measures due to coronavirus outbreak

Say No to Panic & Say Yes to Precaution

The Kanoo Group adopts protective measures due to coronavirus outbreak
The Kanoo Group conducts mandatory temperature checks to all employees and guests when entering the office premises in Dubai, UAE

Dubai, UAE: The Kanoo Group is instituting a number of protocols in response to the coronavirus outbreak, including barring employees from going to work when sick and mandating temperature checks through contactless thermometer to all employees and guests when entering the office premises.

The company may decide to restrict or deny entry to any person with symptoms of influenza and illness and give them advice to undergo further screening by the Dubai Health Authority when suspected to having the COVID-19.

Although The Kanoo Group has so far zero cases for the novel coronavirus, the HR Department headed by Ms. Maha Kanoo, General Manager – UAE & Oman (HR & Marketing) has sent out circulars to all employees outlining several measures to prevent outbreaks and has given detailed information on the numbers to call in case of emergency, including the steps for booking a COVID-19 Test provided that a person meets the criteria set by world health experts.

Earlier last week, HR also instructed employees to fill up a Travel Declaration Form for those who have travelled to infected countries within the last 28 days. Those who have travelled in these areas were asked to go through self-quarantine for a certain period, before re-joining.

The Kanoo Group has also increased sanitary protocols such as installing sanitizers in all workplace public areas and increased employee awareness on frequent hand washing. It also has distributed a number of masks to each of the divisions.

To respond to any critical situation in the future, The Kanoo Group has also formed a Quick Response Team to attend to any calls for guidance on critical situation at any given time.

Addressing the employees, Ms. Maryam Al Busaidy, HR Manager, Employee Services & Emiratisation (UAE & Oman) said, “We would highly appreciate your cooperation to keep our workspace as safe as possible. We also encourage others to schedule their travel plans for a later time.”

Mr. Mohammad Tariq, HR Manager (UAE & Oman) added, “We are implementing as much as possible the most effective measures to monitor, screen and protect the health of our employees. Everyone’s safety and well-being are the highest priority of The Kanoo Group.”

The World Health Organization has advised the public on basic protective measures against the new coronavirus including washing hands frequently with soap and water, or using alcohol-based hand rub; maintaining social distancing (at least 1 metre (3 feet) with people suffering from cough or fever; avoiding touching eyes, nose and mouth; practicing respiratory hygiene (covering mouth and nose with flexed elbow or tissue when coughing or sneezing) and avoiding physical contact when greeting such as shaking hands.

Further, to those who have recently visited infected areas, they are advised to stay at home if they begin to feel unwell, even with mild symptoms such as headache and slight runny nose, until they recover. If they develop fever, cough and difficulty breathing, they are advised to seek medical attention promptly as this may be due to a respiratory infection or other serious condition.

Tariq further advised, “Follow our HR guidelines released from time to time, and stay informed on the latest developments about COVID-19. Also follow advice given by our healthcare provider, our national and local public health authority on how to protect yourself and others from the COVID-19. Don’t panic, don’t spread rumours as it may involve penal action by law.”

“Be polite towards colleagues who are showing flu symptoms and practice self-isolation in case of sickness. Be supportive, careful, alert, and kind.”

The Kanoo Group has also planned disinfection measures across its premises which will be carried out the soonest.
