Kanoo Energy and Desolenator: Pioneering Efforts in Water, Energy, and Agriculture in the Region


Kanoo Energy of The Kanoo Group acknowledges the innovative strides made by Desolenator, a leader in circular solar desalination technology, in advancing water and climate action. The mission is to confront the challenges posed by water, energy, and food security.

In line with COP28’s demand for climate action, Desolenator opened its solar thermal desalination plant in Al Ain. This cutting-edge facility proudly showcases the world's first fully solar thermal desalination plant in the agriculture sector, coupled with an integrated net-zero greenhouse system—a visionary step into the future of farming in arid regions. In attendance were Abdullatif Kanoo from The Kanoo Group , Raman Marwaha - General Manager of Kanoo Energy (UAE and Oman),Vikrant Mahajan and Ahmed Al Rahma of Kanoo Ventures.

The launch of this project is a key moment in the journey towards achieving sustainable solutions in the realms of energy, food, and water security. Through its innovative approach in producing low-carbon desalinated water, advanced remineralization processes, and integrated greenhouse cooling, Desolenator is steering towards a sustainable future.

The project also sheds light on scalable solutions that hold promise for enhancing agricultural practices in arid areas.

Kanoo Energy at ADIPEC 2023 Advancing Clean Energy Solutions

 


Kanoo Energy, a longstanding participant at the Abu Dhabi International Petroleum Exhibition and Conference (ADIPEC), reaffirms its commitment to accelerating the global transition to clean energy. Hosted by the Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC), ADIPEC continues to serve as the foremost gathering for professionals in the oil, gas, and energy sectors.

Mishal Kanoo, Chairman of The Kanoo Group, visited ADIPEC Exhibition and Conference 2023's Kanoo Energy stand. He commended the company's pioneering technology and solutions, recognizing their significant role in fast-tracking decarbonization and advancing sustainable practices across the energy sector. Abu Dhabi, UAE: A high-level delegation from China’s Sinopec Catalyst Co Ltd (SSC) met with The Kanoo Group’s Deputy Chairman Mohamed Abdul Latif Kanoo and Kanoo Energy (Oil & Gas Division) leaders together with the ADNOC Refining teams in Abu Dhabi to discuss potential business opportunities.

Razauddin Shaikh, Operations Manager; Sreenivas Aluru, Regional Operations Manager (UAE & Oman); and Mohammad Azharuddin, Sales Engineer (Chemical, Oil and Gas – OFSS) from Kanoo Energy (Oil & Gas Division), as well as ADNOC Refining’s team led by Ahmed Al Hameli, Vice President (Procurement) participated in the meeting.

ADNOC Refining (AR) is previously known as The Abu Dhabi Oil Refining Company (TAKREER) and is the operational entity of the Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC). AR is a valued client of The Kanoo Group.
The Sinopec Catalyst Co., Ltd. (SCC), a wholly-owned subsidiary of China Petroleum & Chemical Corporation, being led by Zhao Ping, Department Manager (Chemicals Department) and Chen Zunjiang, Executive Director came to the UAE to promote their various refinery processes, provision of technical support and global references.
During the meeting, SSC gave a detailed presentation to the team on the kind of catalysts they manufacture. SCC is one of the world's leading oil refining & chemical catalyst manufacturers, suppliers and service providers. It produces six kinds of catalysts including oil refining, polyolefin, basic organic raw materials, coal chemical industry, environment protection, and others. The productive meeting was well received by the participants.

“We have been working with SCC for more than a year now and they are very much impressed with the services and support that we provide to them till date. We look forward to establishing a long-term strategic and collaborative partnership with SSC to serve our client, ADNOC Refining, and other petrochemical companies in the UAE”, said Razauddin Shaikh.

“While meeting the needs of the domestic market, SCC has been exploring and developing the international markets including Europe, Americas, Asia, Africa, and so on,” he added.

By implementing innovation-driven development strategy, SCC constantly improves the preparation of the engineering technology R&D capabilities and technical service capabilities to be a world-class international high-tech catalyst company with many characteristics in areas such as Sci-tech, production service and advanced green manufacturing.
During the visit, Mr. Mohamed Kanoo welcomed Mr. Chen and team to the UAE and The Kanoo Group and spoke about the history of the Kanoo family and business across the region. He also extended his support to SCC and wished them success in their business objectives in the UAE.

The Kanoo Group and CIRCOR conduct Pump Technology Seminar in the UAE

Abu Dhabi, UAE: Kanoo Energy (Oil & Gas Division), a member of The Kanoo Group, conducted a seminar about the latest pump technologies from CIRCOR® to meet the needs of customers in the region in demanding industrial applications. The event was held on 25th April 2018 at the Le Royal Méridien Abu Dhabi.

CIRCOR has been a world leader in the development‚ engineering‚ manufacturing‚ distribution‚ service and support of fluid handling systems since 1860. It delivers a diverse product portfolio of Pump types from brands like Allweiler‚ Houttuin‚ Imo‚ Zenith‚ Tushaco‚ and Warren‚ including Centrifugal Pumps, Two-Screw Pumps, Three-Screw Pumps, Progressing Cavity Pumps, Propeller Pumps and Gear Pumps.

Mr. Raza Shaikh, Operations Manager-UAE & Oman, Kanoo Energy (Oil & Gas Division) said, “We have been working with industry-leading brands around the world such as CIRCOR to deliver customised solutions as well as exceptional service and support to our customers in the UAE and the region”

“The seminar aims to educate our clients in the selection, design and operation of the new technology pumps and pumping systems for critical applications in the oil & gas industry,” Mr. Aneez Ahamed, Asst. Sales Manager– Mechanical, Kanoo Energy (Oil & Gas Division) explained.
An introduction to CIRCOR and an overview of the different types of pumping technology and their applications were presented during the seminar by Mr. Costantino Spagnoletti, Regional Sales Manager, UAE, Kuwait, and Oman – CIRCOR.

The agenda included topics on Pump Technology Basics (Centrifugal vs. PD Pumps); Operational Considerations Effecting Fluid Transfer; ‘When Should PD Pump Technology Be Considered?’; ‘When Should Two-Screw Technology Be Considered?’; Benefits of Considering Screw Pump Technology in Refineries, Pipelines and Terminal; and Multiphase Pumps and Booster Systems for Upstream Applications.

A focus on Progressing Cavity Pumps – Theory and Applications, in addition to case studies and application examples, and aftermarket, were likewise discussed in the meeting.

The final session had been an interactive dialogue with Questions and Answers that brought out the most important points and overall conclusion.
Mr. Sarfras Roshan, Sales Engineer and Mr. Ziyadh Ahammed, Proposals Officer from Kanoo Energy and some of its major clients, along with Mr. Ritesh Patel, Director, Sales, Middle East & Africa – CIRCOR, also took part in the conference.

Kanoo Energy completes subcontracting works for Ain Dubai

Dubai, UAE: Kanoo Energy, a member of The Kanoo Group, one of the suppliers of power & industrial projects in the Middle East, recently completed a subcontracting project for fall arrest systems on ‘Ain Dubai’, a project by Meraas, set to be the world’s largest observation wheel.

Renamed ‘Ain Dubai’ (previously ‘Dubai-I’), the observation wheel will offer 360-degree views of Dubai, located on Bluewaters Island, off the Jumeirah Beach Residence coastline, with dimensions far exceeding any similar existing structure. The project’s main contractor is Hyundai Engineering & Construction.

The assembled hub and spindle is approximately 40 metres long and 20 metres high and weighs 1,805 tonnes, equivalent to four A380 aircraft. The hub will later be connected to the rim through 192 spoke cables, with the structure then resembling a gigantic bicycle wheel.
The scope of work included Supply, Installation & Certification of vertical lifeline system (Lad-Saf Systems) inside the legs. The hub of the Ain Dubai consists of 4 cylindrical legs of 120 metres height, 17 vertical ladders of 30 feet inside each leg, and 14 ladders inside the spindle which is 150 metres above the ground level.

Kanoo Energy – PIP Division, having the only fall protection team certified in the Region to install such systems and trained to work at such heights successfully completed the installation & certification of all the ladders inside the legs & the spindle. The team shall also recertify the system annually.
Once completed, the Ain Dubai will feature 48 capsules and a holding capacity of up to 1,400 visitors at any given time – with a full rotation of the Ain Dubai taking 48 minutes. Ain Dubai will be the centrepiece of Bluewaters Island, which will feature retail, residential, entertainment and hospitality offerings.

The Kanoo Group presents technological strength at ADIPEC 2015

Abu Dhabi, UAE: Kanoo Oil & Gas and Kanoo Energy, members of The Kanoo Group of companies, showcased their range of products and services at ADIPEC 2015 which was held on 9th - 12th November 2015 at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre (ADNEC).

The highly anticipated international oil and gas conference and exhibition covers a gross area of 100,000 sq. m., featuring more than 1800 exhibiting companies that includes 23 international pavilions from Belgium, China, Canada, Denmark, France, Germany, India, Indonesia, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Malaysia, Netherlands, Nigeria, Norway, Saudi Arabia, Scotland, Singapore, South Korea, Spain, Turkey, UK and USA, making it the largest Oil & Gas event in the world.

Kanoo Oil & Gas showcased its state-of-the-art products and services from renowned Principals: TLV, BASF, Gaytri, Woodfield Systems India Pvt Td, Amtrad Environment, Allweiler, GE, McCrometer, and Colfax. Kanoo P& IP, a part of Kanoo Energy also participated in the event under the initiative of Abrar Khan, GM, Kanoo P&IP Gulf and Raman Marwaha – Manager, Kanoo P&IP (UAE & Oman).

Abrar Khan, General Manager-Gulf, Power Industrial Projects (P&IP) said, “ADIPEC is one of the most prominent oil and gas exhibitions in the region and reflects the outstanding position attained by Abu Dhabi in that industry. P&IP engages in providing a number of strategic and innovative solutions to customers within the Oil & Gas sector and also offers enhanced solutions in other key industries such as expanding into offshore marine sector. Through team efforts, P&IP has recently achieved some crucial qualifications and continues to pursue the same in other high potential areas.”  

Underlining the importance of the event, Shaikh Razauddin, Operations Manager, Kanoo Energy, Oil &Gas Division, added, “We are certainly proud to take part in ADIPEC, being the best meeting place for key decision makers around the globe for this industry. We are looking forward to this exhibition as a huge success as we unveil our latest product offerings to all our customers”.

One of the highlights of the Kanoo Oil & Gas stand included a miniature model of the McCrometer’s innovative V-Cone differential pressure flow meter technology, manufactured in USA, designed for high performance in mild to harsh environments, used for refinery and onshore/offshore production and delivery applications. Moreover, measurements and control advancements from GE include a range of ultrasonic flow meters, and analyzers such as the new moisture.IQ multi-channel, multi-function analyzer that provides all the information that customers need under one instrument.

Products from Woodfield included customised bulk fluid handling and safety access solutions like loading arms, metering and pumping packages for loading and unloading items, in addition to an array of industrial hose and expansion joints from Gaytri for any type of application, and other products such as thermodynamic steam straps from TLV-Japan.

In a separate stand, Kanoo Energy displayed superior bolting solutions from TITAN, Chicago Pneumatic; safety innovations from Uvex such as eyewear and gloves, respiratory, hearing and head protection; in addition to protective clothing and footwear; Servocontrols for magnetostrictive technology; ATMECO for component integrity management systems; and 3M, Capital Safety, DBI Sala and Protecta for fall arrest harnesses. Environmentally-safe VpCI/MCI technologies with the best in-class, low-cost and zero defect equipment preservation, plant layout and mothballing, and  tank, line & process vessel corrosion protection from Cortec; marine services from Calex, among others.

Kanoo Engineering also exhibited under Kanoo Energy Stand as additional service offerings to customers in the Gulf for engineering supplies as well as electrical & diagnostics. Kanoo Engineering is a specialized solution provider of equipment and structural steel for commercial, industrial and residential applications

Mark Vinnicombe, General Manager, Kanoo Engineering elaborates, “Kanoo Engineering is an ISO certified company for Design, Fabrication & Installation of Structural Steel works, Tanks and Pressure vessels. We fabricate and install heavy, medium and miscellaneous steel works related to the construction industry and process equipment, such as heat exchangers, pressure vessels, storage tanks & piping for various sectors such as oil & gas, petrochemical, power, water treatment, cement; and material handling equipment like conveyors, elevators, hoppers, silos, EOT cranes, legged cranes, stainless steel tanks, piping, handrails, architectural works, and so on.” 

In general, Ali Islim, Marketing Manager – UAE & Oman, together with the Marketing team arranged this year’s branding materials for the group’s participation in ADIPEC such as exhibition stands, logo designs, handouts and brochures.
