The Kanoo Group supports 'Educate a Child, Build the Nation' initiative

Dubai, UAE: Information City’s ‘Educate a Child, Build the Nation’ initiative, aimed at training and educating the young generation to learn more about technology, proved another success with the support of government and private sectors including The Kanoo Group.

Under the patronage of HH Sheikh Mohammed Bin Maktoum Bin Juma Al Maktoum, the charitable and educational initiative, in collaboration with Ministry of Education, Knowledge & Human Development Authority, Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan Foundation, Al Maktoum Foundation and Dubai Charity Association, effectively concluded its three-phase summer program held at various educational institutions in the UAE, which helped young learners through the assistance of professional specialists who oversaw the training of the students.

The Kanoo Group donated 90 laptops to students to support the training program. Mishal Kanoo, Chairman of The Kanoo Group, stressed the importance of education and early childhood development through technology and innovative learning methods as vital keys to the future progress of the nation.

Fahad Kanoo, Executive Director – UAE, together with senior officials and representatives from charities and sponsors as well as student beneficiaries and their families, attended the meaningful ceremony held on 30th November 2016 at Atlantis Hotel to celebrate the end of the program and its achievements.

The Kanoo Group backs Regional Conference on Intellectual Property

Dubai, UAE: Recognising the important role that intellectual property plays in a vibrant economic landscape, The Kanoo Group signed a Main Sponsorship agreement in the 6th Regional Intellectual Property (IP) Crime Conference in Middle East and North Africa, held in Dubai on November 15-16, 2016.

The conference addressed the recent challenges posed by commercial fraud and counterfeiting as it relates to businesses in the UAE and the wider region. It also discussed the UAE great initiatives and efforts in combating IP crimes with the International Community as part of cooperation and partnership agreements.

HE Lieutenant General Dahi Khalfan Tamim, the Deputy Chairman of Police & Public Security in Dubai, and the Honorary President of the Emirates Intellectual Property, personally greeted Mr. Fahad Kanoo, Executive Director-UAE, The Kanoo Group, and thanked the company’s efforts in supporting such government initiatives.

Emirates Intellectual Property Association (EIPA), a UAE preeminent association of professionals who specialise in IP; and INTERPOL, the world’s largest international police organisation, organised the Regional Conference, in cooperation with Emirates Transport, Brand Owner’s Protection Group (BPG), Judicial Training Institute, Dubai Customs, 999, and Dubai Police.

On the opening day, well known experts and thought leaders spoke through panel sessions about the: Role of international organisations to strengthen IP rights and protection of authors; Regional/national strategies and initiatives to combat IP crimes and illicit trafficking; Initiatives on protecting Publisher’s Rights and Intellectual Property crimes, success stories; and Marrakesh Treaty for blind & visually impaired persons, and its humanitarian dimensions.

Two simultaneous workshops were also conducted on separate venues on the 2nd Day. The EIPA and Interpol Workshop had panel sessions on the Role of the judiciary and public prosecution in IP issues; Role of international private organisations to combat trafficking in illicit goods, IP capacity building strategies, and the investigation of trafficking in illicit goods. On the other hand, the Dubai Customs and BPG Workshop discussed Brand Owners Protection Group (i.e. BMW); Role of Dubai Customs on Intellectual Property issues; Documents Examining Section, Dubai Police (General Department of Forensic & Criminology); Economic Crimes Department, Dubai Police; Dubai Department of Economic Development (DED); and Courts.

The Kanoo Group believes that the success of the conference will benefit all stakeholders in coming up with sustainable solutions that would enhance awareness and apply stricter rules in fighting counterfeits and piracy, and assuring intellectual property for all trademarks, innovators, and authors which are essential for the social, cultural and economic development of the Region.

The Kanoo Group supports youth empowerment through Kafa'at Internship Fair


Dubai, UAE: The Kanoo Group recently participated in the Kafa’at Internship Fair aimed at giving Emirati youth a foothold in the job market by gaining workplace experience through internship programs in the UAE private sector.  The 2-day fair held at World Trade Centre Dubai was hosted by Emirates Foundation & Emirates Youth Council and The Kanoo Group was among 50 companies partaking in the program. 

More than 2,000 Emirati youth and/or university students participated in the event, with the hope of getting a chance to demonstrate their work capabilities as interns, which could eventually lead to full-time jobs. 
Ms. Maryam Al Busaidy, Kanoo’s Head of Employee Services and Emiratisation said “The Kanoo Group is delighted to offer a number of internship opportunities in the coming academic year. Kanoo is diverse company with many opportunities and is committed to providing fulfilling careers for Emiratis.  An internship is a proven way to start a successful career as it often leads on a to fulltime role.”

Kanoo Shipping handles World's Largest Car Carrier on maiden call to Jebel Ali Port

Dubai, UAE: Hoegh Target, the world's largest Pure Car and Truck Carrier (PCTC) which can carry 8,500 car equivalent units, and a deck space the size of 10 football pitches, arrived on its maiden voyage to Jebel Ali Port, on 30th October 2016.

Kanoo Shipping Agencies handled the operations and husbandry services of Hoegh Target, registered to Norwegian firm Hoegh Autoliners.

Mr. John Drinkwater (Country Manager – Kanoo Shipping, UAE & Oman) said, “We are delighted to welcome the ship on her maiden call.

We are committed to working closely with Hoegh Autoliners to ensure that the line continues to get the highest levels of service when calling in Jebel Ali Port.”

During the vessel stay, Kanoo Shipping organized a recognition ceremony. Mr. Drinkwater welcomed the Master and crew on-board and presented a plaque to them for Hoegh Target’s maiden call.

Hoegh Target also boasts ramp entrance capabilities much bigger than its counterparts, offering up to 6.5 metres of free deck height, and 12 metres of ramp width, which means that it can take high-sided vehicles and trucks. Its stern ramp can also hold a capacity to take cargo weighing up to 375 tonnes.

The Kanoo Group is delighted to announce the launch of its brand new corporate video to customers, partners and associates which is available with English and Arabic subtitles. The recent project was initiated by the Head of the Marketing Department, Ms. Maha Kanoo, in collaboration with agency partner.

The video showcases the Management and Divisional Leaders, the expertise and core business of the group, with a fraction of Dubai’s evolution over the years and exactly how The Kanoo Group has able to contribute to the progress of the region for 125 years as a company.

Mishal Kanoo delivers keynote speech at INSEAD Global Business Leaders Conference

Abu Dhabi, UAE: Mishal Kanoo, Chairman of The Kanoo Group addressed the topic, ‘Changing face of corporate governance in the world’ as one of the panelists at the INSEAD Global Business Leaders Conference (GBLC) held on 24th October 2016 at St. Regis Saadiyat Island in Abu Dhabi.

The INSEAD GBLC is a series of high-level academic and business conferences held around the globe that  discuss major issues affecting the world and its leaders. This year’s conference theme is “Corporate Governance in Uncertain Times”.

Hyundae Fitting Chairman's Visit to UAE Held

Abu Dhabi, UAE: The Chairman of Hyundae Fitting, Mr. Meang-Sung Ha met with Deputy Chairman, Mr. Mohamed Kanoo, in Abu Dhabi on 18th October 2016 following extensive meetings held in Dubai with senior members of The Kanoo Group Management.  Mr. Ha was accompanied by his overseas Sales Manager Mr. Jacob Gong.  Also present was Mr. Sang Bok Lee from STIC Investments in South Korea.

The representatives of Hyundae Fitting are in the UAE to investigate ways to further develop its regional business interests with The Kanoo Group and YBAK.

Hyundae Fitting is based in Busan, South Korea.  They produce high end, specialized Flanges for the Oil & Gas sector, among others.
